San Francisco Business Times Philanthropy Breakfast

Aug 1, 2009 | Sustainability Jobs that Cross Our Desk (Not our placements)

I attended SF Business Times Philanthropy breakfast today (July 23, 2009).   This is annual event where the top 60 corporate philanthropists are recognized.  Despite the recession, these companies stepped up to the plate and increased their giving compared to last year.  My hats go off to Give Something Back, an office supply company and the smallest business there that gives over 50% of their profits to nonprofits.
My 2 favorite quotes were from Craig Newmark of Craigslist  and Janet Lamkin, the California State President for Bank of America.

  • Craig Newmkark: “I like to refer to myself as the Forrest Gump of the internet.”
  • Janet Lamkin: “8 of 10 recruits want to understand Bank of America’s culture of giving and our citizenship”
