You have direct experience in renewable energy or sustainability and you love to analyze, research, and offer creative solutions for clients. You ask lots of questions, take a proactive approach to helping a team, and you have a knack for clearly and succinctly presenting complex information. You are curious and look at all sides of a problem/challenge and make informed recommendations. You pride yourself in your attention to detail. Your organizational skills help you create and execute work plans that are efficient while delivering a high level of service for our clients.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Energy & Climate Practice, the consulting team at 3Degrees, helps organizations reduce their greenhouse gas emissions worldwide through renewable energy and decarbonized transportation solutions. Our clients include some of the largest and most respected companies on the planet, as well as educational institutions and other non-profits.

3Degrees is large enough to make a huge difference in the world, and small enough that YOU can make a huge difference here. The Manager is a vital contributor to the Power Markets Division of our Energy & Climate Practice team. The position plays a critical role in supporting client engagements through the management of projects and the direct execution of client work.

3Degrees’ consulting projects focus on envisioning and implementing renewable energy and climate solutions for large organizations. Our work focuses on reducing emissions of energy supplies – both electricity and thermal – and enabling growing organizations to adopt these solutions within robust sustainability programs.

This position is preferably located in San Francisco, CA or Portland OR. For the right candidate, this position can be performed remotely anywhere in the USA.

  • Independently lead day-to-day aspects of projects, including client interaction, content direction, and quality oversight

  • Scope out work streams and delegate roles and responsibilities to appropriate team members
  • Able to identify and clearly articulate business outcomes to a client using the right level of detail based on data and experience

  • Lead day-to-day project work, mentors consultants
  • Put the overall project plan together – identifies tasks, deliverables, and resources the work based on the client’s value proposition
  • Responsible for ensuring the work deliverables get done and done well, including proactive scoping of potential issues and solutions and timely delivery to meet/exceed client expectations
  • Accountable for the quality and accuracy of deliverables under their control, and managing client expectations to align with those deliverables
  • Play a visible role in representing 3Degrees in industry forums
  • Build subject matter expertise within the team; share knowledge with team

Business Development and Innovation: We support the team’s revenue goals and commit to scaling our core offerings (renewable energy transactions, options assessments, etc.) to meet and anticipate client needs.

  • Lead business development opportunities, which include developing presentations, structuring proposals, and drafting pricing
  • Successfully create sales tools and collateral with relevant, accurate, insightful and attractive content, including case studies and blog posts, through collaboration with the Business Partnerships and Marketing teams
  • Able to draw business insights from data and interpret client needs to offer additional solutions

Team Collaboration: We shepherd and deliver cross-team wins, communicate clearly and openly about expectations and experiences, and drive efficiency and process improvements for everyone’s benefit.

  • Ensure that the team executes on deliverables with an eye to client problem solving and project goals

WHAT WE’LL NEED FROM YOU

  • At least 4- 6 years direct work experience in renewable energy and/or sustainability across multiple domains (e.g. domestic and international electricity markets, corporate goal-setting initiatives, GHG emissions measurement, carbon project origination, etc.).
  • You have 3+ years of prior management consulting experience, including day-to-day project management and people management responsibilities
  • An analytical mindset – you enjoy solving complex problems for clients
  • Prior experience managing client relationships and supporting those clients’ relationships with stakeholders such as company decision-makers, vendors, technical agencies, and the public.
  • Experience with corporate renewable energy procurement and with developing renewable energy and/or climate mitigation strategies for corporations, which may include onsite or offsite power purchase agreements, retail electricity supply, utility green tariffs, or other mechanisms.
  • Experience executing renewable energy and/or climate mitigation strategies, including tasks such as obtaining budget and decision-maker approvals, reviewing and negotiating contracts, solving problems with few resources, educating stakeholders.
  • A passion for serving client needs; joy in other peoples’ success; empathy and superior listening skills.
  • Microsoft Excel mastery and ability to establish spreadsheet design principles for client deliverables; envision tools needed for clients at a level of detail which can be implemented by others.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including experience making presentations to external clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Versatility and ability to be agile in an ambiguous environment.
