PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION

The Manager, Sustainability, is responsible for elevating Abbott’s profile as a global sustainability leader and supporting the operationalization of the company’s sustainability strategy across the organization. The Manager reports to the corporation’s Senior Director, Sustainability & Shared Impact. The Manager will lead creation and deployment of Abbott’s annual Global Sustainability Report, country sustainability reports, and related stakeholder content; maintain Abbott’s leadership position on global investor and reputational rankings, ratings and frameworks that measure Abbott’s sustainability performance; and implement programs to drive sustainability performance across the company. This position interacts with senior management across the Abbott organization, and his/her work directly impacts the company’s reputation and brand strategy.

CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads development of Abbott’s annual Global Sustainability Report and Sustainability Content Ecosystem. Key activities include interviewing subject matter experts; drafting content; leading functional and senior management reviews/approvals; ensuring thorough coverage of broad business issues in Abbott’s reporting activities; creating and delivering on an annual reporting strategy that will differentiate Abbott amongst peers and competitors, and amplify the Abbott brand; and conducting competitive benchmarking and analysis to inform Abbott’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) disclosures. Partners with leadership in priority Abbott markets to develop local sustainability reports and content that are aligned with Abbott’s global sustainability strategy.
  • Leads research, analysis and submission of competitive rankings, ratings and frameworks that will position Abbott as a socially responsible leader amongst Fortune 500 companies. Key responsibilities include improving the company’s ranking and/or disclosures on global and regional indices and frameworks, such as the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, MSCI, CDP, Sustainalytics and SASB.
  • Conducts regular benchmarking and competitive analysis to inform and shape the company’s sustainability activities, as well as raise its profile externally.
  • Develops and manages a data management platform to measure the impact and ROI of Abbott’s sustainability strategy and programs globally and in priority Abbott markets.
  • Represents Abbott’s Sustainability team on multiple internal working groups and in external practice communities.
  • Manages multiple external agency teams and project budgets.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5-7 years of experience in corporate citizenship, sustainability, corporate governance, investor relations or social enterprise required.
  • Experience with sustainability reporting and ESG ratings and rankings preferred.
  • Proven track record of strategy creation and implementation.
  • Strong communications skills and effective project management.
  • Experience working with and influencing senior leadership and building strong partnerships across businesses and sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare, medical devices and/or nutrition space desired.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Business, International Affairs, Public Policy or Public Health. Advanced degree strongly preferred.
