The Worldwide Sustainability (WWS) team capitalizes on Amazon’s scale, speed, and ability to invent and simplify to create a better and more resilient company. We manage our social and environmental impacts globally, and we drive solutions that enable our customers and our business to become more sustainable.
The Worldwide Sustainability ESG Reporting team is looking for a detail focused, results-oriented and collaborative individual to support Amazon’s global ESG disclosure processes.
This individual will work cross functionally to understand our ESG programs, and key metric priorities.
You will draft disclosures and accompanying footnotes in accordance with ESG reporting criteria (i.e. GHG Protocol).
These disclosures will be used to support compliance with emerging regulations including the Proposed SEC Rule on Climate-Related Disclosures, CSRD/ESRS, the EU Taxonomy and ISSB. The individual will work cross functionally with worldwide sustainability, legal and finance to ensure disclosures are clear, transparent, and provide the right level of context to users of the information.
You will also support the voluntary ESG reporting team by drafting external performance narratives.
To do well in this role, you must be able to confidently handle complex projects and provide a point of view in situations of high ambiguity.
Lastly, you must show good judgment and continually improve Amazon’s business model, and emerging ESG reporting requirement best practices.
- This role can be located within 50 miles of any US Corporate Location.
Key job responsibilities
- Design a disclosure strategy framework to allow subject matter experts to properly document calculation methodology and key assumptions for ESG metrics.
- Work with worldwide sustainability subject matter experts to understand our calculation methodology and draft transparent disclosures for inclusion in our voluntary and statutory ESG reporting. These disclosures will need to meet the requirements of external reviewers and will provide a transparent summary of Amazon’s criteria and methodology used to calculate key metrics (i.e. GHG emissions, waste, water usage).
- Draft criteria for external publication that outlines Amazon’s criteria for key goals including 100% Renewable Energy, Net Zero etc.
- Draft performance narratives in partnership with the finance and accounting teams on performance vs. actual results for key ESG metrics and goals.
- Provide requirements to sustainability technology team to help automate mandatory ESG reporting processes.

Basic Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of experience working in ESG reporting, financial reporting, or legal fields.
- Experience creating new disclosures in accordance with specific criteria (i.e. US GAAP, GHG protocol).
- Experience understanding complex transactions and creating clear and transparent disclosures for external consumption.
- Deep understanding of ESG reporting criteria such as the GHG protocol, and also the underlying assumptions that support common ESG targets such as net zero, 100% renewable energy etc.
- Deep understanding of the emerging ESG regulatory environment (Proposed SEC Rule on Climate-Related Disclosures, CSRD/ESRS, EU taxonomy).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with external reporting solutions such as Workiva.
- Ability to apply strategic thinking and demonstrate understanding of requirements to execute.
- Demonstrates bias for action to ensure teams meet or exceed customer expectations.
- Ability to deliver in ambiguity, work autonomously and multi-task in an agile environment.
- Works effectively in a dynamic environment with changing priorities.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $127,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $210,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
