Position Overview:

Position Summary

The position is responsible for supporting and enhancing communications and outreach efforts of the American Chemistry Council (ACC) to advance awareness of ACC and member company commitments to Corporate Responsibility (CR). This includes communications support for Responsible Care® and programs which advance diversity, equity and inclusion, including the Future of STEM Scholars Initiative (FOSSI) and Advancing Diversity in Emerging Leaders (ADEL) program. The position will also support communications initiatives related to environmental justice and community engagement. The position reports directly to the Senior Director, Corporate Responsibility and Community Engagement.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identifies opportunities to further awareness of industry’s CR programs and commitments with media and external stakeholders
  • Assists in the creation and implementation of external communications strategies and deliverables
  • Creates positive working relationships and engagement with FOSSI Founding Partners, including the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, HBCU Week Foundation and The Chemours Company
  • Drafts and distributes press releases and program announcements
  • Develops content for Responsible Care, FOSSI, ADEL and related websites/online platforms
  • Manages FOSSI social media accounts, in collaboration with FOSSI Founding Partners, including creating original content for Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.
  • Manages content and distribution of FOSSI and Responsible Care newsletters
  • Supports Responsible Care & Sustainability Conference program development, including, but not limited to, schedule of events, marketing, session content, keynote presentations and member engagement
  • Supports Responsible Care awards program communications efforts, including promotions strategy and original content development (e.g., blogs, press releases, social media)
  • Supports member communications efforts in CR, including content for President’s Report, Board presentations, and other member outreach, as appropriate
  • Assists with management and deliverables for the FOSSI Communications Task Force
  • Maintains relevant CRM lists, including FOSSI Communicators Network and newsletter distribution lists
  • Identifies opportunities to expand engagement with FOSSI sponsor communicators to advance understanding of the program to potential sponsors and applicants
  • Coordinates with appropriate staff internally in relevant issue areas
  • Identifies, compiles, and distributes relevant reports, as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or related field.
  • Three years of experience in communications or relevant field.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills, including the ability to write quickly, creatively and communicate technical information.
  • Ability to process technical and abstract verbal and written information.
  • Ability to work independently on a variety of projects with competing tasks/priorities.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools and internet research skills.
