Position Overview:
This is a new role created to analyze, monitor and report on corporate social responsibility (CSR) and environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives. This role reports to the Director of Sustainability in the Office of Corporate Social Responsibility, which is part of Corporate Affairs and Communications.
The successful candidate will have the ability to adapt and thrive within a well-established corporate culture. It is essential that the person in this role be able to work well in a small team environment and be able to deliver work independently to a high standard.
Scope of Responsibility:
- Monitors CSR/ESG trends, best practices and competitors’ initiatives to inform strategy and process improvements.
- Monitors and compiles AXP CSR/ESG scores and ratings globally.
- Provides expert counsel on best practices and cutting-edge approaches in CSR/ESG to key stakeholders.
- Collaborates within the enterprise to support company-wide CSR/ESG efforts, including the development of an overall ESG strategy and its implementation.
- Builds cross-functional partnerships to support setting CSR/ESG goals, collecting data for annual reporting and achieving internal alignment with corporate strategies.
- Manages annual global CSR/ESG report and supports CSR/ESG content in the company’s proxy statement and other public disclosures.
- Provides advice and coordination to colleagues in countries where CSR/ESG reporting is required or conducted.
- Supports the completion of CSR/ESG surveys and questionnaires from priority third-party ratings and standard setters in collaboration with business unit partners.
- Develops tools and metrics to measure and monitor the progress of the company’s CSR/ESG strategies and overall alignment to stakeholder requirements and expectations.
- Manages relationships with select external partners and contractors.
- Helps develop authentic communication strategies and content to support company-wide CSR/ESG narratives.
Specific Knowledge/Skills:
- Must have excellent organizational ability, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and should have an acute attention to detail
- A critical thinker with attention to detail and the ability to work with large data sets
- Proficiency in the MS Office Suite and advanced PowerPoint skills
- A team player who can collaborate across a diverse global team
- Strong consulting skills with the ability to quickly assess situations, identify gaps and recommend possible solutions
- Self-starter with a track record of leading collaborative efforts with cross functional teams and working effectively at all levels of an organization
Minimum Qualifications
- At least 5-7 years’ experience in a leading corporate CSR/ESG role or related field.
- A Bachelors’ degree (required), an advanced degree (Masters or PhD) or relevant industry accreditation (preferred).
- Strong understanding of CSR/ESG issues and associated market trends, preferably in the financial services sector.
- Demonstrated ability to manage CSR/ESG strategy development and implementation initiatives.
- Rich understanding and experience utilizing existing CSR/ESG frameworks (e.g., GRI, SASB, TCFD).
- Experience across multiple CSR/ESG dimensions, including community relations, human capital, sustainability, procurement, enterprise risk, operational practices and customer engagement.
- Success in working environments that utilize multi-stakeholder decision-making processes.
- Ability to manage relationships with external vendors and internal partners efficiently and effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
