About Global Real Estate and Workplace Experience (GREWE)

Global Real Estate and Workplace Experience (GREWE) is the global team at American Express (Amex) responsible for the full lifecycle of planning, execution, and operations of Amex real estate. GREWE supports over 65,000 Amex colleagues and contractors in over eight million square feet of property located in 41 countries. Our real estate portfolio consists of large full-service campuses, office buildings, sales offices, and airport lounges. The sites may be owned, leased, or be occupied through a serviced space arrangement. Real estate is part of the broader Global Servicing Group organization which delivers shared business services to colleagues across the enterprise.

Reporting to the Director, ESG & Sustainability, the Sustainability Data Manager will be responsible for supporting company wide ESG reporting and frameworks. In this role, you will partner with key stakeholders including teams within GREWE, ESG, technology, legal, risk, and Amex senior leadership. As the Sustainability Data Manager, you will be a key member of the ESG team that formulates, refines, and executes Amex’s ESG strategy, builds the associated ESG infrastructure and solutions, and provides recommendations to leadership to improve ESG initiatives. You will work cross-functionally to define, execute, and continuously improve Amex’s ESG programs and support key data collection and reporting activities. In addition, you will participate in regular submissions and engagement with strategic sustainability ratings and rankings organizations and contribute to regular ESG-related reporting activities with key stakeholder groups within Amex and outside the organization. The role requires both (i) advanced data management and analysis skills with tools such as Excel and (ii) an ability to communicate clearly and succinctly in written and verbal form to stakeholders across the Amex organization.

This role is based in New York located at 200 Vesey Street. The role is full-time and assigned as “Hybrid” with the expectation to work from the office at least two days per week.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work with GREWE team and external partners to build and manage the Amex internal ESG data repository to support enterprise wide ESG data management and reporting.
  • Manage data repository architecture and mapping, development of governance processes, integration of cross-functional data streams in partnership with other Amex business groups, and data library of ESG-related key performance.
  • Ensure ESG data integrity and fidelity in data repository and enterprise reporting through initial and regular audits/analysis and ad-hoc data reviews as needed by GREWE and other Amex teams.
  • Manage quantitative data collection processes including primary and secondary data, perform greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) accounting and verification.
  • Delivering on end-to-end Science Based Targets workstreams, from carbon footprint baseline year calculations to carbon reduction forecasting / pathways and submission to the SBTi
  • Build, manage, and update GREWE’s standard operating procedures related to ESG data and reporting functions.
  • Support the completion of all non-voluntary and voluntary ESG performance disclosures in which GREWE’s business activities are in scope.
  • Support the creation and updating of Amex’s annual global and market-level ESG reports.
  • Partner with a team of contractors dedicated to the delivery of the environmental sustainability function within GREWE.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of a strategic plan that advances GREWE’s ESG goals and performance targets.
  • Develop coordinated tools and dashboards to facilitate strategic decision making and the reporting of sustainability performance to leadership, colleagues, and various external stakeholders.
  • Provide analytical support and analysis for GREWE sustainability special projects.

Qualifications

  • Advanced ability to analyze data from multiple data sources and draw/provide relevant and actionable conclusions and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Ability to work in a global capacity and manage projects and programs with teams across multiple time zones.
  • Ability to develop and maintain multiple strategic relationships across an enterprise and with external parties.
  • Experience and knowledge of the GHG Protocol and related standards (e.g., Scope 2 Standard, Product Standard, Scope 3 Standard, etc.)
  • Understanding of sustainability/ESG and climate accounting, management and disclosure standards and guidance such as ISO14064, TCFD, SASB, CDP, SBTi, EU Taxonomy, SFDR, etc.
  • Be comfortable executing on multiple projects and high-quality deliverables simultaneously with excellent time management skills and sense of prioritization.
  • Minimum 5 years work experience in a global enterprise in a data management and analysis role is required.
  • Advanced experience with data analysis using Excel is required. Experience using data management tools such as Microsoft Access and data visualization tools such as Tableau is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree is required. Prior work experience in ESG-related operations is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills

Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
