Position Overview:
By working closely with cross-functional team disciplines, this role will ensure that the AstraZeneca manufacturing facility located in Coppell, TX upholds and works towards finding new, innovative and economically reductive ways to stay green and reduce carbon footprint, water consumption, and waste generation. Additionally, this position will own the business process for environmental compliance and reporting. In conjunction with the site SHE Lead, this position will act as a site liaison with local regulatory agencies and AstraZeneca Regional and Global SHE staff. Equally important, this position will assist in the continuous improvement of overall SHE performance through advancement of a positive SHE culture and discipline, as well as updating SHE related business processes and tools within a LEAN operating environment.
- Manage sustainability strategy on-site, with emphasis on environmental protection, however, may include well-being and any other related topics under AstraZeneca’s access to healthcare and ethics and transparency pillars
- Educating people on the importance of sustainability initiatives
- Serve as a technical expert for environmental compliance
- Identify, assess, and recommend approaches to ensure compliance and resolve potential non-compliance in a timely and cost-effective manner, engaging key stakeholders throughout.
- Manage resources such as consultants and/or contractors as required to prepare accurate and timely compliance reports and permits(Tier II, Wastewater, Stormwater, Annual Waste Summary, and EPCRA)
- Investigate and identify root cause for environmental incidents including near misses
- Analyze and report out utility consumption (Energy and Water) as well as waste generation and costs
- Consult with industry experts to identify innovative technologies to advance sustainability goals;
- Organize efforts to work towards external sustainability certifications for the site-i.e. ISO140001, ISO50001, LEED
- Serve and provide guidance to site “Green Team”
- Challenges the status quo, champions change, and influences others to change.
ESSENTIAL:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or other related degree.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience including demonstrated experience with environmental regulation implementation
- Experience in the environmental and sustainability space as well as in project management.
- Experience developing & implementing SHE related programs
- Passion and interest in environmental sustainability
- Ability to lead and deliver results in a fast paced and interactive cross functional environment
- Knowledge of environmental permitting processes, regulations and reporting requirements
- Strong written & verbal communication skills; presentation and training delivery skills.
- Computer literacy and proficiency
- Strong analytical skills and ability to deal effectively with issues and problems
- Ability to meet changing, demanding deadlines while assuring accuracy and completeness of work and that of staff members
- Experience working in a GMP environment
DESIRABLE:
- Advanced degree and/or professional certification preferred
- Pharmaceutical/Biotechnology/Chemical experience is desirable
- Experience in manufacturing setting
- LEAN manufacturing experience
