Position Overview:
Responsibilities
Reporting to the VP of Sustainability, the Manager, Sustainability is a demanding and high-profile position responsible for working across the business to drive strategies and programs that support AVANGRID’s ESG+F strategy and positions AVANGRID as the leading sustainable energy company in the US. In this role, you will work closely with senior leadership to develop and support a holistic strategy for sustainability initiatives and drive accountability and coordination for those activities across a matrixed organization. You will also work closely with the leadership across the organization including, Corporate, Networks and Renewables businesses as well as parent company representatives (Iberdrola S.A.) headquartered in Madrid, Spain. Primary area of responsibility will be overseeing and coordinating activities across the business related to sustainability including overseeing all reporting and analysis of the company’s progress on ESG+F goals, implementing and supporting an employee volunteer program, and ensuring efficient and effective coordination of ESG+F information and metrics across the organization. This role will also work closely with investor relations and government affairs colleagues to ensure messaging is aligned to policy objectives and investor interests.In this role you will develop measurement protocols to determine effectiveness of sustainability activities and ensure optimal use of resources to achieve goals. You will monitor industry and discipline trends, tools, and technologies and bring them to the organization. • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert on Sustainability program development and implementation.
Builds relationships and connections across business to promote and coordinate sustainability within the company.
Implement and own employee volunteer programs as a key sustainability program goal
Oversee development and submission of key sustainability indices including the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, CDP disclosure program, FFTSE4good.
Oversee coordination of sustainability reporting to global Iberdrola Group.
Work closely with Iberdrola Group colleagues to ensure global objectives are considered and reflected at AVANGRID level.
Scan the market and provide competitive intelligence to support the development of the company as a sustainability leader.
Oversee and deliver special projects in the Sustainability areas.
Skills and Requirements
Proven experience in ESG program management and reporting. Proven leadership skills. Project management experience. Bachelors’ Degree required with Master’s Degree preferred with a minimum of 6 years relevant experience and minimum 4 years ESG/industry experience. Demonstrated track record of implementing sustainability strategy and programs for a publicly traded company, global company. Experience managing teams that do not report directly. Experience working in a highly matrixed organization managing multiple stakeholders. Excellent decision making, project management, interpersonal and communications skills. Strong analytical, organizational, and influencing skills. Credible communicator and presenter at a senior level. Establishes credibility throughout the organization as an effective developer of solutions to business challenges. Bilingual capability preferred; fluency in Spanish and English in both written and verbal communication desired. Able to work in high pressure and crisis situations with grace and composure. Strong ability to work effectively with and influence senior leaders and other key stakeholders. Ability to multi-task and quickly prioritize projects and work well under pressure and tight deadlines. Comfortable working in rapidly changing, ambiguous environment. Collaborative and flexible style, with an approach to work that motivates and energizes others. Strategic thinker who isn’t afraid to get into the trenches and do the hard work. Strong team leader and cross-functional collaborator. Attention to detail and an ability to plan and execute events and meetings on strict timelines and budgets. Ability to make reasonably quick, well-informed strategic decisions. Must have the flexibility to travel. Must have the flexibility to travel up to 20%.
