Beautycounter and global investment firm The Carlyle Group have announced that Carlyle has acquired a majority stake in Beautycounter. The partnership will allow Beautycounter to accelerate its strategic initiatives, including increasing brand awareness as well as bolstering the company’s innovative, integrated, omni-channel business model. The transaction values the company at $1 billion.

This position, reporting into the Sustainability Manager, will inform sustainability efforts at Beautycounter through exceptional scientific analysis, diligent data management, and a clear understanding of basis tenants of sustainability.

In this role you will

  • Conduct research related to sustainability tradeoffs and follow latest sustainability trends related to packaging materials
  • Understand and be able to conduct Life Cycle Assessments for packaging and raw materials
  • Submit relevant product specifics to third parties like How2Recycle, which informs recyclability of products and packaging selection
  • Understanding of various environmental impacts of packaging and be able to provide business relevant recommendations to the Sustainability Manager
  • Research novel packaging materials and formats, propose paths to implementation across teams, and quantify expected environmental impacts for business consideration
  • Manage large data sets related to responsible sourcing initiatives, including tracking and managing certifications that span across ingredients and products
  • Work with suppliers to understand the practical aspects of implementing novel materials, formats, and practices, focusing on packaging, accessories, and merchandise
  • Lead environmental impact tracking for leased operations and supply chain, using supplier data and models to inform, set, and pursue company-wide environmental impact goals; lead data collection via administration of the Partner Scorecard
  • Ability to understand and analyze Scope 1, 2 and 3 impacts and assist in data creation that will inform Beautycounter’s path to carbon neutrality by 2030
  • Support tri-annual B Corp recertification
  • Calculate and procure carbon and water offsets each year
  • Identify key areas of improvement across sustainability initiatives and provide immediate feedback
  • Collaborate with the Sustainability Manager and key cross functional partners (Supply Chain, Safety, Quality, Packaging) to create and roll out processes to increase Sustainability impacts

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher education in Sustainability, Environmental Science or a related field
  • 2+ years of relevant professional experience in an analytically-focused role (CSR/Sustainability, NGO, or analytical role for a mission driven company)
  • Highly technical, curious and has demonstrated creativity and analytical ability: experience developing approaches to address complex questions, perform data collection, extraction and analysis, and generate concise report-out deliverables
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical abilities, specifically ability to perform Life Cycle Assessments, understanding of mapping Scope 1/2/3 emissions, ability to understand how to track and manage environmental reporting
  • Strong communication skills; written and verbal
  • High degree of attention to detail and diligence in verifying accuracy & completeness of work
  • Experience with analyzing data and creating interactive data visualization reports, with a preference for familiarity/proficiency Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Sustainability experience and technical expertise required
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft office, including Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint.
  • Must be exceptional at managing and sorting large bodies of data
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and juggle multiple projects without compromising quality.
  • Excellent note taking skills, especially in a meeting setting, and able to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Must take directions well and have superb attention to detail skills.
  • Excellent communication, social, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally
  • Teamwork attitude and ability to adapt quickly and effectively
