About this role

Analyst, Corporate Sustainability – GHG Emissions Data Management, Environmental Sustainability

BlackRock’s Corporate Sustainability Team is responsible for integrating sustainability into BlackRock’s corporate operations, strategy and corporate disclosures. The Analyst will play a meaningful role in data collection and management for BlackRock’s greenhouse gas (“GHG”) emissions reporting process and will support the implementation of BlackRock’s environmental sustainability strategy.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Support data management through collection, analysis and reporting on BlackRock’s environmental impacts, including energy and greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories. This includes data from our global vendors.
  • Support and coordinate the annual total carbon footprint submission to the CDP Investor and Supplier surveys.
  • Manage data collection methodologies and help build a process of continuous improvement to quantify BlackRock’s environmental impacts.
  • Track performance indicators, baselines and targets to drive improvement programs and risk management around climate change, energy, water resources, waste, data center energy efficiency, green buildings and transportation.
  • Familiarity with global regulatory developments and changes to reporting standards and outstanding corporate behavior.
  • Maintain and optimize the environmental management database. Build improved functionality into software tool and spreadsheets to provide relevant strategic metrics and information.
  • Support sustainability reporting and engagement, including strategy development and customer process.
  • Support Corporate Sustainability program as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree preferred
  • Strong analytical and statistical skills, including financial modeling and experience making sense of large amounts of data
  • Minimum 1-2 years of relevant professional experience in GHG emissions reporting, including sustainability, energy, carbon footprint management or related field
  • Seeking a tech-savvy candidate with experience with sustainability software tools, computer science and/or database management
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
  • Knowledge of the World Resources Institute and World Business Council for Balanced Development guidelines on Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reporting Protocol as it relates to measuring Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions
  • Knowledge of sustainability reporting frameworks, specifically CDP and TCFD.
  • Solid grasp of sustainability and environmental topics and fundamentals (such as: balanced design, planning policy, waste, carbon/energy, responsible sourcing, water, biodiversity, and certification systems)
  • Good social skills; enjoys working in a multi-functional team-oriented environment
  • Self-starter with solid attention to detail and ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously while prioritizing the most pressing and impactful matters
