The Breakdown:

We are looking for someone who is passionate about making a positive impact and experienced in driving results. As a member of the People and Planet Impact team, the Supply Chain Social Impact Manager will elevate our responsible sourcing and supply chain social compliance programs, in support of Burton’s 2025 Goals, and will contribute to corporate sustainability initiatives. This person likes tackling hard and proactively looks for practical ways to make improvements. They are collaborative and inclusive communicator with the proven ability to build strong relationships across all stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes. They are entrepreneurial and process oriented with a high aptitude for project management. Our ideal candidate is both analytical and creative, drawing inspiration from within and beyond the industry to promote innovation and best practices. The Social Impact Manager’s day-to-day work will contribute to our company purpose – to fight for the future of our people, our planet, and our sport. This position reports to the Senior Manager, Environmental and Social Impact.

What You Get To Do:

  • Track, report, and drive progress toward Burton’s 2025 Impact goals related to social responsibility, including strategy development and implementation of the fair compensation initiative
  • Uphold the highest standards for safe & fair labor in our factories by leading Burton’s social audit program, managing the supplier onboarding process for the social and environmental impact team, updating supply chain policies and procedures, and engaging suppliers in best practices.
  • Company liaison with Fair Labor Association (FLA) – lead accreditation process, develop Burton’s FLA improvement strategy and represent Burton at FLA Board meetings.
  • Work with Social Impact Analyst to review audit results, perform root cause analysis, and identify remediation and improvement strategies.
  • Drive sustainable action plans for continuous improvement of root cause issues for social and environmental non-compliance through innovative approaches to factory training and capacity building.
  • Analyze assessment data at facility, supplier, and portfolio levels to make improvements and influence future strategy
  • Contribute to annual supplier evaluation and engage directly with suppliers to improve worker wellbeing
  • Build out social impact training curriculum for Burton staff and suppliers
  • Manage engagement with civil society organizations and increase collaboration with labor rights groups
  • Research best-in-class supply chain sustainability industry trends and international standards. Proactively identify key social impact risks and suggest remediation plans.
  • Manage and improve Burton’s country risk assessment process for sourcing – identifying key risks and opportunities for supply chain shifts.
  • Keep abreast of trade, regulatory and emerging country issues as it relates to fair labor and working conditions.
  • Lead the annual Higg Brand Retailer Module assessment and the Fair Labor Association Assessment and contribute to other benchmarking initiatives. Conduct gap analysis and build plans to improve performance

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

  • BA required
  • 3+ years of relevant international work experience – supply chain, social impact, responsible sourcing.
  • Good judgement and strong problem-solving skills with a solutions-oriented mindset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with people from different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds
  • Proven ability using data to drive decision-making and communicate impact
  • Self-directed and able to take the lead independently
  • Critical thinker that is able to understand context and determine root causes
  • Builds collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Highly organized with strong project management skills; ability to create and maintain timelines and consistently meet deadlines
  • Strong Microsoft Office and Excel experience
  • Passionate about the health and wellbeing of people across cultures and borders.

Nice to have:

  • Familiarity with human rights standards and organizations including Fair Labor Association, Fair Trade, SA800, SMETA, WRAP, etc.
  • Knowledge of apparel or consumer goods industry
  • Experience managing direct reports or teams
