Analyst, Environmental and Agriculture Sustainability
This role works closely with the Senior Manager, Sustainable Agriculture and the Director, Environmental Sustainability and is jointly responsible for supporting the execution of Campbell’s Sustainable Agriculture and Environmental Sustainability programs across the enterprise to promote resilient supply chains and initiatives related to Campbell’s purpose. The position is an active member of Campbell’s Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Team and supports other corporate divisions and brand teams with respect to a range of agriculture and sustainability topics and content.
Primary Responsibilities (70%)
- Support the management of sustainable agriculture partners and programs to measure and advance sustainability in priority ingredient crops
- Collect grower and crop sustainability data, analyze, and utilize in corporate and third-party reporting programs
- Support program management, including helping to coordinate partner meetings, develop annual work plans, ensure the quality and timeliness of program deliverables, and track partner invoicing.
- Conduct analysis that supports strategy and program development work, including benchmarking, researching industry standards and best practices, materiality analysis, scoping conversations with external partners, and helping to prepare budgets and proposals.
- Collect, validate, calculate and aggregate sustainability data, including emissions, water, waste, supplier-related impacts and agricultural inputs for external reporting needs and internal development of value chain impacts
- Manage relationships with key agriculture and civil society organizations to advance corporate sustainability and reputation goals
- Partner with Campbell Responsible Sourcing programs in joint strategy efforts, including execution of Campbell’s Science-Based
- Target and value chain water risk roadmaps, ingredient risk assessments and priority ingredient updates
- Communicate efforts for thought leadership; develop and manage content for Campbell reporting and investor screens, customer and industry presentations, and the corporate news page and social media; and translate sustainable agriculture and environmental advancements for marketing and brands teams as they develop consumer communication strategies
- Manage Scope 3 accounting and value chain water risk assessments for the company and efforts to reduce supply chain-related emissions and water risk, including maintaining a database to track supplier impacts and progress
Other Activities (30%)
- Work with approved verification organizations to document accuracy of supplier-reported data related to Campbell sourcing goals in sustainable agriculture
- Maintain performance metrics and scorecards for corporate goals regarding sustainable agriculture, environmental sustainability and transparency. Assist Director of CR&S and broader team with corporate reporting needs, customer engagements, and related investor inquiries.
- Provide subject matter expertise for the enterprise and highlight emerging issues in agriculture sustainability and environmental sustainability for leadership through internal postings and, as requested, presentations
- Track trends in agriculture and environmental sustainability to develop strategies accordingly for how Campbell can lead
- Evaluate opportunities and projects that deliver results and improve the Company’s sustainability position
- As needed, support integration of recently acquired business units into Campbell sustainability efforts
- Drive employee engagement on sustainable agriculture, sustainable sourcing and environmental sustainability (e.g. training/curriculum development)
Job Complexity
- Self-starter
- Must have a solid command of specialty crop and commodity agriculture production related to environmental issues. Experience in agriculture processing desirable.
- Must have an understanding of environmental sustainability tracking and reporting frameworks, such as the GHG Protocol and the Food Loss and Waste Protocol
- Demonstrated understanding of key agriculture sustainability practices in subjects such as fertilizer optimization, water conservation, and pest management preferred. Understanding of prominent US and international agriculture sustainability programs desirable.
- Must have demonstrated capability to utilize MS Excel and other data tools for accurate data recording and analysis.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Excellence in web research, PowerPoint and MSWord.
- Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Tolerance for ambiguity and ability to work well in a matrix organization.
Job Specifications
- Minimum education required: BS/BA in Agriculture, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Engineering, Biology or related field
- Education desired: Masters’ degree in related field
- 3-5+ years of relevant experience required
- Fluency in English
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated strong organization skills, including project and program management skills.
- Ability to drive results across multiple simultaneous projects.
- Proficiency with MS Office.
