Position Overview:
Chemonics seeks a corporate environmental sustainability manager to support the project development and support division’s project management team. The Manager will provide strategic support to Chemonics’ corporate system, processes and policies around environmental and climate risk management. S/he serves as a subject matter expert on environmental and climate risk regulations, procedures, policies and practices. S/he manages and supports interagency collaboration and compliance assistance for Chemonics International, USAID, DfID, Global Fund, and/or other donor agencies programs, and implements environmental and climate risk management frameworks to comply with USG/EPA, EU, and/or donor agencies’ environmental and climate risk management requirements. Responsibilities include:
- Support Chemonics efforts to define and institutionalize an appropriate corporate model for environmental and climate risk management frameworks, which responds to the need for resilient project performance and risk management throughout the project lifecycle
- Support USAID, DfID, and other counterparts’ efforts to strengthen environmental and climate risk management within Chemonics projects and programs and adhere to appropriate guidance, policies, and procedures
- Manage the development of appropriate systems and procedures, whether in the form of standalone guidance, training, standard operating procedures, into an integrated compliance system
- As needed, conduct internal audits of projects and/or activities to identify operational, environmental, and occupational environmental and climate risk management conditions that will inform direct, consultative services to projects
- Identify the appropriate approach to targeted training and communication on planning, operational phase and drawdown, as well as priority target audiences. Defines steps needed for further implementation
- Train project management units (PMUs) and other relevant staff on best practices for environmental compliance and protection
- Analyze incident and compliance trends data
- Collaborate with Environmental and Climate Risk Management Director, PDS and corporate leadership, and project staff to develop appropriate environmental mitigation, climate adaptation measures, and associated monitoring measures
- Contribute to new business efforts by supporting the drafting of environmental and climate risk management documentation, and lead the movement of relevant documents through the approval process
- Participate in task forces, working groups, inter-agency groups, as needed on relevant issues
- Serves as a technical mentor in developing the technical capacity of employees within the company

- Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible project or program management experience, including policy-oriented work, on a broad range of issues relevant to organizational management, environmental management required
- Knowledge of theories, concepts, and approaches relevant to environmental and climate risk management concepts and approaches
- Experience in managing and coordinating environmental and climate risk management programs across a large organization, and developing project and program’s environmental and climate risk management frameworks is desirable
- Ability to communicate clearly links between the project’s strategy and the work goals
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data, problem solve and develop solutions
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing, and lead presentations, training courses, and effective meetings
- Strong organizational and work prioritization skills
- Strong MS Office and word processing abilities
- Experience supervising or mentoring employees preferred
- Willingness to travel and work abroad a minimum of 4 to 8 weeks per year, experience living or working in developing countries preferred
- Speaks and writes clearly and effectively in English. Proficiency in a foreign language preferred
