SCHEDULE Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm. Schedule may vary, including occasional nights and weekends, based on departmental need.
PAY RATE $50,000-$55,000/yr.
DESCRIPTION
SUMMARY
About the office: Climate change is an urgent threat to our city. The Office of Sustainability coordinates our community’s response to climate change by developing and implementing mitigation and adaptation strategies that center equity. Specifically, our Office leads the implementation of our community’s Climate Action Plan, Carbon Neutral 2050.
About the role: The Project Manager will play an integral role in developing and implementing the city’s climate change mitigation and adaptation projects. They will work closely with the Director to develop the Office’s strategy, and they will take the lead in executing programs that help our community achieve its sustainability goals. The Project Manager will plan, direct, and coordinate projects that improve energy efficiency, increase renewable power, and boost clean transportation in the community. The Project Manager will develop and manage detailed project schedules and work plans, track project costs, manage contracts with vendors and suppliers, coordinate stakeholders, monitor progress, and adjust as needed. This position will require building tools and processes to track project outcomes and impact.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Organize, manage, and direct the work of projects within the Office of Sustainability’s portfolio, including implementing workplans, monitoring project budgets, managing contracts, and evaluating outcomes
• Recommend, develop, and implement processes and systems that promote communication, mutual accountability, and improved outcomes for the Office of Sustainability
• Work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of initiatives
• Communicate the City’s sustainability vision, initiatives, and progress through web content and social media and by working closely with the Department of Community Investment’s Engagement and Economic Empowerment team
• Collaborate with the Director to prepare long-term adaptation and mitigation strategies in coordination with stakeholders and work closely with them to incorporate input and solicit support
• Fully incorporate social equity into decision making, in addition to the environment and economy
• Support the Director in measuring progress on our community’s Climate Action Plan

QUALIFICATIONS

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Sustainable Business, Engineering, Public Administration/Policy, Government, Economics, Social Studies, or equivalent.
• At least 3-5 years of experience working professionally in the government, business, consulting, non-profit, and/or academic sectors.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES PREFERRED
• Strong understanding of sustainability and resiliency theories and programs, as well as federal, state, and local policies and initiatives
• Excellent project management skills
• Demonstrated experience developing clear timelines and goals
• Proven ability to solve problems creatively
• Proven ability to complete projects according to outlined scope, budget, and timeline
• Outstanding oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
• Commitment to excellence, innovation, and data-driven evaluation
• Demonstrated ability to work with efficiency, flexibility, humility, and good humor
• Ability to work effectively with diverse ethnic and cultural groups and community residents
CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, REGISTRATION
• Valid Driver’s License if required to drive a City vehicle.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in office setting, with moderate inside temperatures. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate in the office and may be quiet to loud in the field. Exposure to adverse weather conditions such as cold or heat may prevail in situations involving outside meeting engagements. Entire office is smoke free.
