Job Overview/Summary
The Culture, Community, and Sustainability Coordinator will foster a shared culture of community and sustainability across Clorox business units in Durham, North Carolina. Reporting to the Associate Director, Burt’s Bees & BetterHealth VMS Sustainability and Vice President of the Burt’s Bees Foundation, this role will help support progress towards The Clorox Company’s IGNITE strategy and the Burt’s Bees 2025 Impact Vision.This role will be primarily responsible for implementing employee service and giving programs, supporting Burt’s Bees circularity goals on packaging, waste and climate, and promoting an inclusive and equitable work culture.
Key Responsibilities
Executing our Culture and Community Strategy for the East Coast Hub of Clorox by championing culture and fostering close connection between employees, our community and consumers
- Facilitate volunteer initiatives including the Live the Greater Good community service program
- Scale up our Clorox presence and manage key local Clorox community partnerships
- Support grant making process, outcomes measurement, and community relations for the Burt’s Bees Foundation
- Support Burt’s Bees/BetterHealth VMS community sponsorship
- Conduct tours of Burt’s Bees/BetterHealth VMS headquarters for students, community groups, media and other fans of the brand
- Organize Culture Day, an annual day of team building and service
- Organize Sip the Honey, and annual half-day for children of employees
- Facilitate quarterly and annual The Greater Good Awards recognition
- Support local Wellness Team to drive employee participation
- Support the company’s hybrid work model
Advancing progress on Burt’s Bees, BetterHealth VMS and Clorox sustainability goals
- Assist with plastic footprinting and progress towards material reduction and recyclability goals
- Assess business carbon footprint and support life cycle analysis
- Help oversee and manage waste streams to achieve and maintain zero waste-to-landfill status for the business
- Lead team to perform regular waste audits of Hill Building recycling, compost and waste-to-energy bins
Deepening the Burt’s Bees/BetterHealth VMS commitment to inclusion and diversity
- Manage relationship with racial equity partners; assist with scheduling of workshops and communications
- Build deeper connections to NC Central and engage Clorox employees to support corporate recruitment activities
- Work with Global Strategic Sourcing to support increased procurement from local women-owned and minority-owned businesses.
Execute internal and external communication plans
- Regular internal communication on employee and community programs
- Local communications and PR activities as directed by manager and brandengagement team

Key Skills, Abilities and Experience Required
Years and Type of Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in volunteer management, grants administration, event management, communications, product innovation, environmental management, life cycle analysis, corporate responsibility, public policy, diversity/equity/inclusion.
Skills and Abilities:
- Intellectual and practical understanding of the company’s commitment to sustainability through acting as a positive force for social and environmental change within the company
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and influence skills in cross-functional, multi-stakeholder environments and at all levels of the organization
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Attention to detail and data management skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
- Experience in giving/volunteering software a plus
- Experience with frameworks for promoting racial equity and strong multicultural competence
- Commitment to diversity, inclusion and equity and fostering a work culture where all people can bring their full, authentic selves to work
Education Level/Degree:
- BA/BS or equivalent experience
