Position Overview

This is an entry level position requiring a detail-oriented, organized individual to stay abreast of trends in renewable resources, sustainable work processes, and environmental science in order to ensure proper sustainability benchmarks are established and maintained. Uses a variety of research methods to analyze and provide recommendations for corporate sustainability projects and programs. Work to develop professional internal and external relationships with key stakeholders in an effort to help influence and educate on company processes as it pertains to environmental sustainability.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Proactively understand and stay up-to-date on Greenhouse Gas compliance regulations.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining all company Environmental Product Declarations.
  • Assist in company strategic planning process as it pertains to environmental sustainability
  • Help educate applicable employees, customers, vendors, and company business partners on environmental sustainability initiatives.
  • Advocate company environmental sustainability efforts to key government and community stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with sourcing on sustainable product alternatives.
  • Actively help develop, maintain, and enhance relationships with environmental sustainability organizations, groups, and leaders.
  • Assist with annual innovation planning and reporting.
  • Local and national Industry Association engagement on product sustainability.
  • Seek to understand how the organization can monitor/track sustainability indicators, such as energy usage, natural resource usage, waste generation, and recycling.
  • Identify opportunities for influencing existing and emerging environmental requirements.
  • Foster and promote a work environment keen on environmental sustainability.
  • Develop an understanding of relevant sustainability legislation to help improve site arrangements, standards and best practice.
  • Identify, support and facilitate sustainability initiatives and improvements, such as the development and monitoring of sustainability KPIs.
  • Seek practical cost savings in regard to sustainability initiatives and directives.
  • Effectively communicate sustainability initiatives/directives to all key stakeholders.
  • Promote an inclusive and diverse work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education/Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in an environmental engineering/science-related field preferred or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Valid driver’s license required

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local safety regulations
  • Proficient using Excel, Word, Outlook, and related computer software
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience leading change across multiple sites/locations and the ability to influence those that are not direct reports or within your organization
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to distill complex and ambiguous subjects into clear action plans
  • Strong interpersonal skills: excellent communication skills, strong relationship builder, solid influencing and negotiation skills, and the ability to coach at multiple levels
  • Must be willing and able to travel as needed
  • Experience or knowledge of monitoring and reporting against sustainability measures (preferred)
  • Experience of knowledge managing and promoting sustainability across multiple disciplines throughout the process lifecycle, particularly; procurement, planning, design, engineering, construction, and operations (preferred)
