Position Overview:

DC Green Bank seeks a Sustainability Guru to help launch this cutting-edge, mission-driven organization. Working with the leadership team, the Sustainability Guru bolsters internal and external sustainability efforts to ensure alignment of values, procurement, and the most appropriate disbursement of investments. They will create, review, and track a sustainability policy and performance metric system to ensure the maximum impact of funds. They will be responsible for upholding the bank’s commitment to social equity and responsibility, sustainability education, and leading the way in environmental, social, and corporate governance. The Guru will play an important role in determining the strategic direction of this growing, high-impact organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the creation, review, and tracking of a sustainability policy and performance metric system to ensure appropriate disbursement of funds, supporting the mission of DC Green Bank.
  • Staying abreast of Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG), implement funding project policies and metrics, monitoring each project’s progress and compliance.
  • Serve as the internal expert on green initiative finance; monitor local and national programs, make recommendations for new program implementation and advise stakeholders on best practices and opportunities.
  • Regularly assess the environmental impact of completed projects. Make recommendations to the team for continued improvements.
  • Collaborate with the team to develop and evaluate requests for proposal (RFP), ensuring equitable access, policy, and review.
  • Research and train internal staff and external stakeholders on updated sustainability practices and governance.
  • Serve as the primary educator about sustainability finance to local businesses; advocate for systemic change through local education.
  • Create and maintain strong relationships with key sustainability experts and organizations in Washington, DC, advancing the bank’s mission.
  • Uphold and regularly enact DC Green Bank’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate has proven experience in creating and evaluating sustainability policies. You are an expert in green initiatives and renewable energy sources and have created evaluations to score programs and projects. You have interacted with program managers and can communicate, maintain, and hold others accountable to project goals. You are committed to partnering with sustainability leaders and passionate about providing access to these programs in under-served communities. You have experience and a strong desire to educate the community, stakeholders, and internal employees about the newest sustainability trends and how they can make an immediate impact. You have developed and/or influenced an RFP process, including distribution and drumming up interest in the partnership. You may already have strong connections in the non-profit, financial, energy, affordable housing, and public sectors, specifically regarding sustainability. As we grow, you are willing to take on additional responsibilities to fill the needs of DC Green Bank. You are committed to tackling climate change issues at a local level for global impact and you will strive to bring an entrepreneurial and creative spirit to DC Green Bank.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Prior experience in sustainability. Work in environmental sciences, energy, governance, or financial services is a plus.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and willingness to ask questions to clarify assignments.
  • Ability to conduct research and create engaging training sessions.
  • Commitment to the mission of DC Green Bank.

  • Location: Remote during DC’s stay-at-home order; Washington, DC required when stay-at-home order is lifted
