The Sustainability Manager will report to the Corporate Sustainability Lead and will provide management and support of key projects across: 1) responsible and ethical sourcing of raw materials, 2) development of targets, reporting, and reduction of carbon footprint, and 3) commercialization of sustainable packaging. This includes, but is not limited to, Ferrara’s Sustainability strategy development, evaluation of sustainability program proposals, active internal and external collaboration, reporting and audits, and data analysis and collection.

Tasks for Strategic Integration of Sustainability
- Focus on supporting Ferrara’s Sustainability strategy development, elevating it to a best-in-class program
- Work cross-functionally to assess future projects as the sustainability manager within the business
- Partner with Brands to execute and stress test sustainability proposals and projects
- Represent Ferrara with relevant external organizations, companies, government bodies, etc.
- Collaborate to review budget and project costs
- Establish Ferrara’s first KPIs for sustainability and support Ferrara’s growth of sustainability capabilities and expertise
- Ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures
- Understand and demonstrates Agility, Ambition, Collaboration, Sharing and Accountability
- Perform other duties as assigned
Tasks for Ethical Sourcing of Raw Materials, Carbon Reporting and Reduction, and Sustainable Packaging
- Partner with procurement category managers on identification of alternate sustainable sources of suppliers, ensuring business continuity and sustainability while minimizing business risk
- Manage third party agencies to engage suppliers to conduct Responsible Sourcing and Social audits based on established guidelines and objectives
- Engage with external industry platforms and groups on sustainability to leverage industry and supply chain networks and support pre-competitive collaboration
- Guide supply chain sustainability risk assessments against the global material risks (social, environmental, animal welfare) and into specific supply chains (e.g. sugar, gelatin)
- Support and coordinate internal KPI development, data capture, progress tracking and reporting on sustainable ingredients sourcing, carbon emission and climate data, and sustainable packaging initiatives that aligns with the Ferrara strategy
- Support sustainable packaging engineer on sustainable and reusable packaging commercialization projects with cross-functional teams across brands
- Partner with procurement to plan, implement and execute strategy for reducing plastic usage
- Provide thought leadership and support on developing and implementing a process to capture data to calculate carbon emissions, set reduction targets and track progress across all Ferrara facilities and sites
- Support continuous improvement of carbon emission (scope 1, 2, and 3) reporting capabilities to ensure compliance and transparency with customers
Skills that will make you successful
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills required
- People management experience as this role will have one direct report
- Sustainability background with deep knowledge of industry, best in class processes, validation and assurance schemes and standards (e.g., best practices, policies)
- Team player with the ability to work with a diverse set of people, including executive levels of management
- Strong negotiation, contract development, and analytical skills
- Strong problem solving and strategic thinking ability
- Strong project management skills with the ability to balance long term priorities and vision with short term needs
- Understands risk management and its implications
Experiences that will support your success
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Sustainability, or related field
- Masters, PhD, or certification preferred
- Minimum 3 years’ experience with Corporate Sustainability programs (preferably in CPG)
- Category specific Sustainability awareness and key drivers
- Cross Functional Experience required
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite, strong emphasis on Excel and PowerPoint
- Knowledge of product labeling regulations and nutritional information helpful
- SAP experience preferred, ERP system experience required
