Position Overview:
Job Summary
Flagstar is seeking an ESG Manager to be a key member of the Flagstar Global environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and governance (ESG) Team. The ESG Manager supports Flagstar and the Corporate Responsibility Team in all areas of Corporate, Investor and client-focused ESG reporting. This includes initial baseline and ongoing tracking and management of a large and growing set of ESG performance metrics for Flagstar. We are looking for a team-centric individual with a passion for ESG information systems and processes along with a desire to leverage data to advance our ESG leadership. The role will require strong organizational, analytical, critical thinking and communications skills to drive rigorous reporting, analysis, and insights and to help build systems and processes to meet the evolving needs of our business and ESG stakeholders. The ESG Manager will project manage meetings, milestones, and management reporting and is heavily involved in the continued development and implementation of Flagstar’s ESG program. The ESG Manager will drive ESG measurement and tracking, including data collection of KPI metrics and process and improvement initiatives. They will work with stakeholders across all internal business segments to gather data to define the current state and align resources and efforts to achieve goals and objectives. This position can be remote or based in our Hicksville, New York, or Troy, Michigan offices
Pay Range: $71,600.00 – $87,947.00 – $132,600.00
Job Responsibilities:
- Data Collection & Management
- Ensure the extraction, collection, measurement, organization, curation, and analysis of ESG data to meet global ESG reporting and communication needs.
- Document definitions, data owners, processes, data controls, and accuracy protocols for all metrics.
- Responsible for analytical rigor, accuracy, consistency, and completeness of ESG data.
- Work with ESG stakeholders to identify data gaps, accuracy issues, and start process(es) to fill gaps.
- Support the development and tracking of Flagstar’s ESG goals and targets.
- Maintain understanding of audit and internal control practices that support data collection, validation, and process integrity.
- Prepare data processes and accuracy protocols to ensure Flagstar readiness for independent third-party review of ESG data and progress towards goals.
- Serve as a key contact for reviewers of ESG data.
- Communication, Disclosure, & Reporting
- Drive Flagstar’s annual and periodic ESG reporting, to include annual ESG report, as well as other reports such as CDP, DJSI, and periodic reporting.
- Lead quantitative and qualitative content development for ESG reporting.
- Create annual improvement plans to support and enhance Flagstar’s ESG reporting.
- Support ESG framework alignment and disclosure, including but not limited to: Global Reporting Initiative, Sustainable Accounting Standards Board, and United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
- Serve as primary contact for gathering data for pertinent stakeholders who request ESG and sustainability reports.
- Manage internal and external communication and disclosure around Flagstar’s ESG performance and goals.
- Engage and communicate with clients, key stakeholders, as well as internal and external partners.
- Strategy & Implementation
- Drive continuous system and process improvement.
- Ensure the management of Flagstar’s ESG systems and tools.
- Maintain deep understanding of ESG landscape, reporting, and disclosure trends of key stakeholders, ratings systems, reporting frameworks, and standards, legislation, and peer/company best practices.
- Engage with ESG ratings firms, understanding the mechanisms behind the rating, and support development of strategy to drive positive score influence.
- Guarantee integration of / with ESG in varying Flagstar business units.
- Support global ESG and Corporate Responsibility Teams in executing broader strategy and program.

- Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. Completes all required compliance training. Job Requirements:
- HS Diploma, GED or Foreign Equivalent required
- Bachelor’s Degree Preferred (environmental science, environmental policy, sustainability, business, finance, analytics, supply chain, engineering, computer science)
- REQUIRED, 3+ years relevant experience.
- Previous experience in ESG data management.
- Previous experience with sustainability reporting standards such as CDP and DJSI.
- Background in ESG and sustainability is a plus, including use of tools such as ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager and Workiva, as well as experience reporting with GRI, SASB, TCFD, CDP, DJSI, GRESB, ISS, MSCI, Sustainalytics, etc.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills (i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Previous work experience on advanced business analytics, including advanced Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables, VLOOKUP’s, linked spreadsheets, advanced formulas, etc.
- Ability to manage large and complex data.
- Passionate interest in data visualization.
- A critical thinker, nimble with analysis and numerical data, with a focus on concrete and quantitative back-up for positions taken.
