Position Overview:

Job Summary:

Hershey is seeking an experienced senior professional within sustainability and corporate communications experience to lead the company’s ESG communications strategies and execution. This role is accountable for positioning the company as a leader across and within its ESG priorities, including cocoa sustainability, environment, responsible sourcing and human rights, and transparency and disclosure. The successful candidate will be experienced in issues management, stakeholder engagement, representing an organization internally and externally, and media relations and digital communications. This role will serve as part of the ESG and Communications leadership team.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Leads enterprise communications for ESG, owning thought leadership, development and implementation creating cohesion of communications strategies and engagements across ESG
  • Positions Hershey internally and externally as a leader in developing and implementing lasting solutions to create sustainable, resilient supply chains – notably cocoa and other key commodities
  • Partners with ESG, Procurement, and Government Relations to anticipate business needs and proactively develop strategy and positioning to build reputation and amplify Hershey narrative that progresses our sustainability and business goals
  • Works cooperatively with Investor Relations, Customer teams and other internal clients to build meaningful and impactful ESG communications for key stakeholders
  • Works in partnership with ESG Reporting and other internal stakeholders to produce annual ESG Report and other public-facing disclosures
  • Serves as corporate spokesperson on ESG topics, engages regularly and constructively with media and serves as communications counselor for senior leaders across the business, creating messaging assets and deliverables as well as training to enable strong delivery of our corporate ESG narrative
  • Delivers analytics and insights on efficacy of engagements, communications and brings forward reputational strategies to grow and protect the company
  • Manages project budgets, schedules, action and workplans, and resources to project completion

Qualifications:

  • Degree in communications, journalism, public policy, sustainability, or related field. Master’s degree is a plus.
  • 10+ years of increasing responsibility in communications, public policy, corporate affairs, or related field with strong track record in communications involving ESG disciplines
  • In depth knowledge of ESG disciplines including responsible sourcing – cocoa experience preferred, environment/ climate, human rights, human capital, and community engagement. Experience with agricultural supply chains preferred
  • In depth knowledge of communications disciplines including editorial strategy, project management, relationship building, issue management/ crisis communications, agency management, digital communications, internal communications, and global media relations
  • Keen knowledge of regulatory and policymaking processes in the U.S. and Europe, as well as familiarity with standards-setting organizations. Experience successfully engaging with and advancing shared goals.
  • Highly organized with strong project management skills and a track record of successful prioritization and execution
  • Strong influencing, collaboration, and experience managing relationships with all levels within an organization and with external stakeholders including governments, NGOs, and standards-setting bodies.
  • Superior oral and written communications skills
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable, managing and progressing projects with differing objectives, milestones, and deliverables
  • Fluency in English required; French and/or Spanish preferred additional languages
