Position Overview:
SUMMARY
The Senior Analyst, Sustainability supports the broader Corporate Sustainability team on topics related to supply chain engagement, sustainable packaging facilitation and stakeholder reporting. This role will work closely with R&D, Purchasing, Contract Manufacturing and business sustainability liaisons, along with external resources to facilitate continuous improvement. The work will involve understanding internal objectives, business priorities and external capabilities in order to recommend short and long term solutions to improve the sustainability of Smucker supply chains and products.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supply chain engagement including internal strategy and connection to goals; work includes coordination/alignment with business & functions, identification of priority supply chains, risk assessment & management of outputs, action plans, and establishing measurement & monitoring of systems and processes.
- Oversight of supply chain projects which include industry engagement & supplier engagement, Articulate business case, establish desired outcomes, design project plans, align with internal and external stakeholders, execute, evaluate & monitor progress.
- Activate Sustainability Strategy and Platform deliverables related to Packaging Goals. Lead and/or participate in Sustainable Packaging Steering Team, as determined by the working groups. Facilitate goal tracking, maintain knowledge of internal and external risks & opportunities related to packaging activities and manage communication & reporting.
- Coordinate internal responses to stakeholder reporting requests related to supply chain sustainability topics-including surveys from customers, external ratings organizations & relevant sustainability platforms, like CDP. Evaluate opportunities and activities to improve progress and scores. Maintain standardized responses and accurate data.
- Facilitate strategies & activities to achieve a Scope 3 GHG emission reduction 22% per unit of sold product by 2030 vs. a 2019 baseline. This includes identifying data systems, work process and tools for increased visibility. Assist in building insights to supply chain engagement to include in a climate transition plan. Owning and recommending supply chain and supplier engagement roadmap to achieve progress.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Education
- Bachelor’s degree is required
Experience
- At least 2 years of relevant business experience is required
- 3+ years in CPG, preferably food & beverage and/or corporate sustainability experience preferred
Other
- Knowledge of relevant sustainability topics across the pillars of environmental, social and economic.
- Proven project management and problem-solving skills
- High level of autonomy to balance multiple work objectives, while delivering results
- Demonstrated technical & quantitative skills including advanced experience with MS Office applications (Word/Excel/Powerpoint)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build effective relationships, assess business needs, and deliver results in a collaborative environment
- Flexible to support changing department needs
- Understanding of reporting frameworks including SASB, GRI, & TCFD
- Familiarity with the SBTi, GHG Protocol and reporting requirements preferred
- Life Cycle Assessment- Experience with Scope 3 value chain assessment techniques, accounting and methodology preferred
- Ability to analyze complex situations and make recommendations in a dynamic environment preferred
- Experience in sustainability measurement in agricultural supply chains (e.g. energy and carbon accounting, waste & water) including process, tools & systems preferred
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
