JOB SUMMARY: The Manager, Sustainability assists in the implementation of sustainability strategies to ensure KB Home continues to be a sustainability leader in the homebuilding industry and that KB homes and communities are built using the most economically and environmentally friendly methods possible.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages the daily operations of KB Home’s Environmental Management System, including the Home Energy Rating Service (HERS) tracking database and other compliance programs associated with KB Home policies and standards.
  • Assists in conducting sustainability research and analysis to identify opportunities for new initiatives, as well as improvements in current programs. This includes researching environmentally friendly construction methods, materials, and systems, conducting cost-benefit analyses, and evaluating impact on quality.
  • Presides over programs that focus on improving the environment, conserving natural resources, saving money for KB Home and our customers, supporting the communities we build, as well as the communities we work in, and improve KB Home’s ESG ratings.
  • Collects and analyzes data needed for evaluating the success of initiatives including the preparation of KB Home’s annual sustainability report and disclosures.
  • Assists with the coordination of the annual Sustainability Report production (scheduling, reviewing, assembling, and managing versions).

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications/Licenses

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Earth Science, Physics, Statistics, Construction Management, or another relevant discipline required
  • Master’s Degree in related discipline preferred

Experience

  • 3+ years in sustainability project management and/or real estate/residential construction/homebuilding experience required
  • Prior experience managing initiatives including data analytics is required
  • Prior experience in a corporate setting preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong verbal and written communication, with the ability to take complex concepts and communicate succinctly, accurately and assertively
  • Ability to give, receive and analyze information, and interpret complex issues, in order to determine the root problem and make effective decisions to bring the issue to a successful conclusion
  • Highly organized and flexible, with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines, often with frequent interruptions and changing circumstances
  • Exceptional interpersonal, collaborative, customer service, and creative problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt as needed
  • Team player mentality with the ability to work within cross-functional teams and build relationships throughout the organization
  • Strong eye for detail and accuracy for all assignments, especially those that are shared with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Proven and strong abilities in the use of Microsoft Excel, XP and PowerPoint required

  • Position will be located in Pomona, CA (LA and Phoenix also an option)
