Position Overview:
Lead the development and execution of initiatives to achieve the company’s Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) strategy and improve the company’s ESG performance and reputation. Lead internal working groups to drive positive change on material ESG topics and short- and long-term public targets, particularly in the Sustainability and Systems pillars. Support ESG reporting and disclosures and engage external stakeholders, including investors and advocacy groups. Demonstrate the company’s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.
Essential Job Functions
- Lead Corporate Affairs management of select ESG topics to achieve Kroger’s ESG Strategy: Thriving Together, including responsible sourcing, human rights, and animal welfare
- Convene and lead internal cross-functional working groups to engage business and functional leaders in strategies to achieve public ESG commitments
- Represent the company in industry and multi-stakeholder coalitions and/or working groups focused on achieving progress through collective action
- Serve as internal subject matter expert on key ESG topics
- Support day-to-day issues management and stakeholder engagement related to key topics
- Research and benchmark best practices and participate in industry coalitions on key topics, where appropriate
- Support data collection, reporting and public disclosures on ESG topics
- Update policies, public commitments, and processes as needed to improve operational performance and achieve public commitments
- Support ESG leaders in project management, as needed
- Triage external requests for Kroger’s involvement in related activities, whether seeking thought-leadership, financial or voluntary support from the company
- Travel independently (<40%) to assist division leadership with relationship building

Minimum Position Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field
- 3+ years of experience in public affairs, sustainability, or social impact in a corporate or advisory setting
- Ability to plan/prioritize a variety of tasks and adopt efficiently to changing priorities
- Ability to handle sensitive information while maintaining a high degree of confidentiality
- Excellent oral, written and listening communication skills
- Proficient Microsoft Office skills
Desired Previous Experience/Education
- 5+ years of experience in ESG or sustainability topics
- Any experience in the food and retail industry
- Any previous work experience in issues management and/or stakeholder engagement
Education Level: Bachelor’s Required
Required Travel: Up to 50%
