Position Overview:
The Sustainability Manager, Communities will work directly with the Development and Asset Management teams in the Communities Business and the broader Lendlease Americas sustainability team, together with key stakeholders and influencers within the Communities businesses, including military housing, privatized army lodging, and residential development portfolios.
The role will assist in the delivery of business unit specific sustainability strategies, supporting, inspiring, and engaging development and business teams to address the businesses requirements and the Lendlease sustainability framework aspirations and targets. The position will focus on embedding sustainability across the business, demonstrating value and ensuring that contractual and business objectives are achieved throughout the Communities business delivery lifecycle.
Responsibilities include:
- Conduct detailed analysis of project-level sustainability strategies and initiatives;
- Lead the preparation and facilitation of Sustainability Action Plans to track progress toward towards project and business sustainability targets;
- Project management of portfolio wide environmental, social and economic initiatives for both new construction/renovations and existing portfolio / campaigns;
- Lead and manage the preparation and facilitation of quarterly environmental reporting and network of sustainability champions including coordination of annual conference;
- Guide project level mitigation response to Climate Related Risk Assessments; and
- Manage and create case studies, and contribute to internal and external sustainability communication, messaging and reporting.
The Sustainability Manager, Communities will represent Lendlease’s Communities business both internally and externally (as appropriate), providing technical support on sustainability strategy, operations and projects in order to achieve continuous improvement and ongoing leadership as a subject matter expert.
Essential Job Functions, Duties and Responsibilities

- Support with the development of Communities business sustainability strategies and business plans aligned to the Lendlease Sustainability Framework, targets and business unit drivers.
- Assistance with the analysis of Due Diligence information during the pursuit/acquisition process.
- General research (industry, sustainable products, sustainable services and competitor).
- Generation and delivery of strategic messaging with support from internal communications teams.
- Participation in external sustainability committees and working groups (as required).
- Consolidation, analysis and communication of sustainability related data for the businesses to monitor performance and enable strategy development.
- Lead environmental compliance requirements including data collation, data verification and operational control determinations, in addition to assisting the business to undertake, interpret and respond to climate related risk assessments.
- Management of important sustainability related information such as grants, community initiatives, community programs, sustainability proposals.
- Performance reviews of sustainability initiatives/requirements and subsequent feedback to the business.
- General support to management and development teams.
- Peer review of external consultants where employed to undertake sustainability related studies and independent assurance
- Through best practice reporting and case studies, assist in demonstrating the financial benefits of the sustainability initiatives
- Demonstrate collaboration and leadership with key stakeholders.
General Background and Minimum Requirements
- Degree in Engineering, Construction, Environmental Science, Sustainable Development, Property or relevant equivalent.
- Sustainability professional accreditation, such as LEED AP
- 5+ years’ experience in a sustainability role including industry experience/exposure highly desirable.
- Exposure to building ratings such as LEED, WELL, Fitwel.
- Exposure to corporate sustainability reporting.
- Exposure to the construction and/or property industry (preferred).
