Job Overview

The Senior Manager, Sustainability – Human Rights role will create and lead programs that bring partners from across the enterprise together to advance our commitment to protecting human rights and fulfill our special social contract as one of America’s best known and respected brands. The role reports to the Director of Sustainable Product and Human Rights and sits within a center of excellence, working with partners across the enterprise to design and guide the successful implementation of programs that deliver measurable business results and positive impacts on society. Your success in this role is dependent on your ability to engage business partners in our journey.

Essential Functions

Manage and Evolve Existing Programs · Assess existing programs for responsible sourcing/social compliance, conflict minerals and other procurement-related programs; identify opportunities to improve human rights protections in our enterprise and our supply chains. · Partner with leaders in Legal, Sourcing, Procurement and other areas of the enterprise to align existing programs into a cohesive strategy that will secure our reputation as a company committed to human rights protections.

Engage Enterprise on Human Rights Journey

Develop and lead the company in the journey to identify human rights risks and improve our human rights protections, within our operations and in our supply chains, using the UN Guiding Principles and other relevant frameworks. · Oversee executive engagement and colleague training and development programs to build awareness of the company’s roles and responsibilities in protecting human rights · Partner with executives in Macy’s Diversity and Inclusion COE to align on strategies and maximize our positive impact on human rights protections for all. · Introduce appropriate governance for human rights, such as cross-functional working groups · Develop a cohesive, enterprise-wide, multi-year strategy that will integrate human rights commitments into our business and drive year-over-year improvements in ratings and rankings in our human rights performance.

Lead Human Rights Stakeholder Engagement and Issues and Risk Management

Create mechanisms for meaningful stakeholder engagement; Partner with Legal, Communications and other colleagues to proactively and reactively engage with NGOs and other external stakeholders on human rights issues · Serve as the point person for stakeholder inquiries on our human rights risks, protections, and impacts. Write and edit responses to inquiries, ratings and disclosure programs, in partnership with Legal, Communications and other relevant business partners

Responsible for Macy’s Social Compliance enterprise wide

Leads all efforts for Social Compliance of Macy’s factories making private label, Macy’s, Bloomingdales or Blue Mercury labeled product.

Manage Overseas team of Social Compliance and Sustainability Analysts.

Oversea a team of Analyst located in Macy’s overseas offices. Ensures the team proactively engages suppliers, ( Tier 1-4) to adhere to Macy’s policies. Safeguards the relationships with key suppliers, communicating Macy’s expectations and goals for Sustainability and Human Rights.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Bachelors Degree
  • 8-10 years’ experience Leading enterprise-wide human rights programs in retail or apparel. Experience in CPG, F&B or ICT industries may also be relevant.
  • Familiarity with the retail and apparel industries’ social and environmental impact and strategies that mitigate risks or make a positive contribution to society and the planet, with a special focus on equity.
  • Ability to interpret laws and policies affecting our industry, explain the implications for our company and plan a meaningful course of action.
  • Experience in conceptualizing and building new programs from the ground up, working through ambiguity to solve problems and through complex organizations to build productive partnerships and lead change that drives better business results.
  • Ability to construct business cases for human rights efforts, identify meaningful business outcomes, and build program and project roadmaps for producing high-quality deliverables on time and meaningful change over time.
  • Previous experience building Worker Well-Begin programs.
  • Effectively communicate complex ideas with senior leaders.
  • Capacity to work independently on problem-solving and strategizing, but also serve as a trusted partner with colleagues on the team and in the enterprise. · Ability to independently keep pace with industry and business trends and pivot quickly as conditions change.
  • Applied knowledge of UNGP and ILO conventions, as well as with ratings programs such as CHRB and Fashion Transparency Index.
  • Capacity to represent the team and the company with internal and external stakeholders, including NGOs. Physical Requirements.
  • Strong working knowledge of supply chain logistics and versed in CTPAT compliance.
  • Candidate has existing relationships with suppliers in APAC, EMEA and NA.
  • Fluency in Mandarin, Cantonese and English.
  • Frequent use of computers and other technology necessary to perform job duties, including handheld electronic equipment.
