Position Overview:

Packaging Experience Innovation Manager

This position is responsible for leading the Packaging function (innovation, value improvement, Quality, Brand support) that delivers value across Mars Retail.

This global role will identify innovation opportunities, build business case, plan and execute packaging projects for future and existing products to drive enhanced experience to our consumer & eventually growth and efficiencies for the business. The role will require strong cross functional collaboration between the three channels ( Retail, Digital & Licensing) within Mars Retail, Mars Wrigley, Americas packaging and Global packaging teams.

What are we looking for?

Minimum

• BS in Packaging and/or Engineering/Science related degree
• 5 years of work experience in leading & executing packaging projects
• Proven creative, value-added, results producer, proven influencing skills
• Ability to travel 10% of the time
• Proven capabilities with Microsoft Office

Preferred

• Food packaging experience
• Skills in design software
• People management experience

What would your key responsibilities be?

Idea Generation: Ability to identify and generate ideas new to the world/market/ category technologies that improve quality, reduce cost and our environmental footprint. This includes packaging redesign initiatives, package component consolidation and production line efficiencies. Bring new ideas & technology to the table, leads business case development & own the execution. Expertise in prototyping. Partner with IP team to assess strategy for protecting any intellectual property of potential value to the business resulting from idea generation. Utilize appropriate tools to document and protect all ideas (Ideas Database, Lab notebooks, etc.)

Pipeline Development: Partner with Mars -Wrigley R&D and the Global Packaging Team to deliver a robust long-term value pipeline for the retail business.

Sustainability: Provides leadership & partnership in Packaging Sustainability across Mars Wrigley Global/regional packaging community and leads & deploy initiatives relevant for the retail.

Specifications: Develops packaging specifications on current initiatives, leads specification development for new technologies, mentors associate on specifications, and is a Subject Matter Expert on 1 or more material categories

Vendors: Build strong relationships and technical understanding with regional packaging vendors on technical matters & leverage their capabilities

Line Management: Develop & Manage direct reports

Test Methods and Specifications: Develops test methods, establish or refine specifications, document standards and testing protocols for relevant productivity initiatives.

Quality, Product Safety, Qualification and Validation: In-depth understanding of qualification and validation. Leads success criteria identification, qualification and validation plan development with statistical analysis. Support Mars QMP standards, it’s audits & compliance.

Prototype Development: Hands on development of prototypes ranging from quick cut & paste, low resolution models to fully functional, consumer testable packages & devices.

Cost Modeling: Partners with Supply Chain, Commercial

Project & Stakeholder Management: Executes with excellence as technical leader on regional/global packaging projects for agreed product launches. Provides technical expertise to influence project direction.
