Position Overview:

Mattel is seeking a Sr. Analyst of Sustainability based in El Segundo, California to help support the company’s strategic objectives related to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) programs, communications and disclosures. This newly formed position requires an understanding of ESG and sustainability concepts, ESG rating agencies, communications frameworks, and an ability to manage data and work cross functionally.

The candidate will be detail oriented, an innovative thinker and is passionate about Mattel achieving its global stainability goals and creating a more sustainable future for the next generation. Reporting to our Director of Sustainability, this employee will have a highly visible role working closely with key functional teams in Design & Development, Procurement, Global Supply Chain, Quality/Safety/Compliance and the Global Head of Sustainability.

The candidate must have some prior experience working in corporate social responsibility, sustainability and ESG programs. The candidate must also be detailed orientated, strong writing skills, data facility, knowledge of sustainability and ESG indicators and concepts, frameworks for reporting sustainability disclosures, ESG rating agencies and the ability to work cross-functionally in driving results.

What Your Impact Will Be:

Because the function is small and leanly staffed, the responsibilities of this analyst will include but not be limited to the following activities:

  • Support Director of Sustainability and team on programs and initiatives to help achieve corporate ESG goals and measure performance against goals.
  • Collect and maintain sustainability/ESG data.
  • Manage tracking and reporting of key performance indicators related to all ESG matters, including but not limited to climate change, diversity and inclusion, governance, and environmental sustainability priorities (energy, greenhouse gas waste, composition of packaging and product materials etc.).
  • Analyze and assess documents, files, and data to be used in reporting and project development.
  • Support the data gathering, calculations, writing, design, and overall development of the Company’s Sustainability/ESG reporting, sustainability rating and reporting agencies/frameworks, such as: CDP, GRI, SASB, individual customer reporting requirements, and our annual company sustainability report and website content.
  • Work closely with professional service providers that assist with sustainability initiatives, including assisting with the selection of such providers.
  • Help determine evaluate improvements in our global sustainability programs and benchmark best practices.
  • Monitor the sustainability rating agencies’ assessments and benchmarking of the Company in order to enhance disclosures and provide recommendations on the frameworks and reporting methods the Company should pursue.
  • Draft and develop trainings on sustainability topics to further ESG awareness throughout the Company.
  • Support additional company sustainability learning initiates including webinar, lunch and learns, and a monthly newsletter.
  • Assist Director and Global Head of Sustainability and EHS team with efforts to reduce GHG emissions including strategies and solutions.
  • Coordinate sustainability requests from investors, retail customers, and regulators.
  • Ad hoc projects and assigned duties as necessary.

What We’re Looking For:

  • 4+ years of experience within related disciplines
  • Understanding of environmental, social and governance (ESG) concepts, and passion for sustainability.
  • Familiarity with key reporting frameworks (GRI, SASB), leading ESG rating platforms (CDP, S&P SAM), retailer reporting programs (Project Gigaton, Thesis).
  • Candidate must have analytic problem-solving skills with an understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
  • Candidate must have the ability to efficiently handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, adapt to shifting priorities, and be very detail-oriented
  • Ability to work independently as well as with cross-functional teams
  • Proven experience in strong interpersonal skills, including a positive ‘can do’ attitude and ability to manage relationships
  • Excellent time management skills
