Position Overview:
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Senior Manager of Utility Engineering and Sustainability is responsible for overall leadership to plant utility operations, project engineers, and managers in determining and carrying out the best engineering utility design, maintenance, and operating practices for plant utility systems (boilers, steam, refrigeration, and compressed air) and support the organization in sustainability efforts of energy, carbon, and water reduction. The Senior Manager of Utility Engineering and Sustainability works independently or as team members to assess and implement utility design, installation, maintenance, and operation practices for the plant utility systems and assess and implement sustainability practices consisting of energy, carbon, and water reduction. The Senior Manager of Utility Engineering and Sustainability is responsible for the utility and sustainability capital plan development for North America. The Senior Manager of Utility Engineering and Sustainability will lead the Process Safety Management (PSM) program for all North American production facilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Oversee the design and review of equipment and systems using corporate standards.
- Interface with engineers to define project scope requirements and incorporate corporate standards.
- Evaluate new process technologies to improve existing systems and resolve process and safety problems.
- Work with finance, production, and safety to develop justifications for capital projects and prepare the Requests for Expenditure Authorization (REAs) in a timely and accurate fashion.
- Acquire and negotiate project contractor bids in conjunction with procurement.
- Prepare project specifications and/or tender documents.
- Manage release of design input to suppliers (contractors, component suppliers, etc.).
- Produce site visit reports, contractor job meeting minutes, project material listings, purchase orders, installation schedules and preparation of any other documentation relating to installation of systems.
- Assist in the development of new installation techniques and standards.
- Manage capital projects ranging in dollar value from $1MM plus meeting deadlines and budgets. Identify and effectively utilize project resources.
- Manage the resolution of technical issues identified by suppliers. Manage technical documents provided by suppliers
- Utility subject matter expert (SME) on system and component design, maintenance procedures and activities, and operational practices.
- Sustainability program development and implementation – fuels (natural gas, fuel oil, steam), electricity, biogas, water, and carbon reduction.
- Energy, carbon, and water key performance indicator (KPI) development and benchmark reporting
- Develop, organize, and participate in sustainability and energy/water reduction teams.
- Independent study and project development concerning discrete plant components as related to sustainability (examples – blanchers, lighting, boilers, ect.).
- Utility rate structure analysis (electrical/natural gas, alternative fuels).
- Review regulatory proposed changes with regards to energy use and carbon emissions at Federal/State/Provincial level and evaluate impact to company operations.
- Participate as company representative in state regulatory intervention organizations (example – Wisconsin Industrial Regulatory Group, WIEG) and report to management any impacts to the organization.
- Review and evaluate Federal/State/Provincial programs related to grants/rebates on energy reduction projects and programs.
- Participate in sustainability presentations to management as requested and be the main interface with the McCain sustainability global team
- Engage the production facilities in personal development, mentoring, and training in regards to utility activities.
Provide refrigeration system capital planning (project development and capital budget proposals) and execution including long term infrastructure planning. - For utility related capital projects, provide project design, contracting, and construction management.
- Evaluate, contract, and manage consulting engineers as required.
- Provide Process Safety Management (PSM) support and leadership for all North American production facilities.
- Develop best operating practices for design, maintenance and operation of utility systems.
- Provide engineering support in the areas of design, maintenance, and operation for condenser systems, evaporators, cold storages, and freezer tunnels.
- Assist the production facilities in trouble shooting operational and maintenance issues for refrigeration systems.
- Provide engineering support for HVAC activities at the production facilities including condensation issues.
- Provide leadership and direction in chemical handling management for condensers and the refrigeration system operation and maintenance activities.
- Provide support and direction for the facility Legionella Management programs including condensers and hot water systems.
- Provide support and direction in energy management reduction efforts in the refrigeration, boiler, and HVAC disciplines.
- Leads the Root Cause Failure Analysis effort for refrigeration equipment failures and operational practices.
- Develops specific operational procedure changes to help mitigate future failures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Education, Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in engineering or a relevant scientific discipline or equivalent experience, and continuing self-development
- Minimum of 10 years’ progressive industry experience with energy management systems, refrigeration and boilers.
- Competent Computer Skills (e.g. MS Office)
- Must be fluent in English; second language is a plus but not required
- Strong technical expertise and problem solving skills
- Strong analytical skills (e.g. root cause analysis and statistic analysis)
- Displays vision and demonstrates both personal and organizational sensitivity
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics and computer-generated reports
- Can communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in written work
- Must be willing to work alternative shift schedules when applicable for assignments
- Must be willing to relocate within the United States for assignments and future growth

Desired Experience:
- Previous experience in a variety of factory floor and staff assignments desired with an emphasis on refrigeration and boiler design, construction, maintenance, and operation. Process Safety Management (PSM) experience and knowledge related to ammonia refrigeration systems is mandatory. Must exhibit a understanding of energy and water reduction management programs and projects. Demonstrated ability and 10 years or greater experience in the utility and refrigeration disciplines required.

Travel
- 30 to 50% travel throughout the US and Canada required. Candidate must be eligible to work in both the US and Canada.
