Job Description:The Manager for Nature & Water Strategy on Global Impact’s Sustainability & ESG team will lead the development and deployment of McDonald’s global sustainability strategy for water (across supply chain and restaurants), forests, and biodiversity in partnership with key functions such as supply chain, restaurant development, markets, and other corporate functions. This role will strategically engage internal and external partners and handle project management, resource development, communications, and reporting.
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage and develop McDonald’s sustainability strategy for forests, water, biodiversity, and other related impact areas, in alignment with McDonald’s teams across the business and world, along with external partners.
- Drive progress against our 2030 public commitment to eliminate deforestation from our global supply chains, ensuring our actions are aligned to stakeholder expectations, emerging regulations and our strategy on other areas including climate and human rights.
- Formalize our global strategies and innovation opportunities on biodiversity and water (supply chain and restaurants), building on insights and actions from existing work, global teams, market efforts, suppliers, and NGO partners.
- Lead our representation with external stakeholders, including the Consumer Goods Forum Forest Positive Coalition and Taskforce for Nature-related Financial Disclosure.
- Strengthen our data and insights to enable our internal strategy execution, and to ensure robust metrics for external ESG reporting to demonstrate progress on targets in a way which is aligned to global guidance and stakeholder expectations.
- Manage all aspects of areas of responsibility including budget, working group representation, best practice development, reporting, and engagement with McDonald’s markets.
- Identify new partnerships, opportunities, and technologies for scaling change in a global landscape, including from McDonald’s system and external sources.
- As the McDonald’s subject matter expert, build relationships cross-functionally with teams including supply chain, customer experience, restaurant development, corporate and government relations, to bring this work to life for our customers.
- Collaborate with food and planet directors to advance forward looking strategic projects and innovation beyond forests and water, related to circularity, climate, nutrition, resiliency, environmental justice, etc.
Qualifications:
- Deep understanding of environmental sustainability issues relating to food and planet, especially on forests and water topics.
- Practical experience of working on solutions to these matters across multiple countries within a large corporate, NGO or similar organisation.
- Enterprise thinking, values-driven and solutions focused, with the ability to proactively identify problems and partner with the right teams internally and externally to find appropriate solutions.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, professionalism, flexibility and personability, with a desire to work in a fast-paced environmental with multiple cross-functional teams based across the world.
- Strong project management, influencing and engagement skills. Collaborative attitude and ability to work independently, sensitively leading progress across global, virtual, and cross-functional teams.
- Degree in sustainability, environmental management, ecology, agriculture, or a related discipline preferred.
