Position Overview:
We’re looking for a Sustainability Programs Manager who can take the US business forward broadly in three areas:
- US Sustainability Strategy: Our US stakeholders—employees, customers, partners, consumers and others—expect us to be complementing the system-wide leadership we are taking, with local action to constantly improve our sustainability. This role will lead the work we take locally, acting as a partner to worldwide stakeholders on the development of key sales plays, engagement strategy and creating best practice leveraging Microsoft’s internal approach to build and drive communications, thought leadership and solutions in market.
- Customer engagement: Our customers have their own deep commitments to sustainability, and many have established science-based targets for their own action. Our technology can help them on this journey. This role will provide subject matter expertise to our own sales teams, supporting their engagement with customers, supporting sales efforts through the lens of sustainability, and driving a strategy that puts transforming technology in the hands of our customers.
- Building Strategic Partnerships: Sustainability is becoming core to our strategic customers and prioritization for our top GSIs, Global ISVs and start-ups who are leveraging our cloud platform to support a wide range of projects, solutions and expertise to market demand. Activating the ecosystem, developing the right partner model, co-sell engagement and data driven approach to strategic partnerships to build and invest for the US market is critical. This role will drive business development across sectors, communities and technologies to create new and strategic coalitions and partnerships to support a range of projects associated with sustainability to run over future years. This role will work closely with the Comms team, ensure strong visibility, proof points and storytelling of Microsoft’s vision for Sustainability and the innovation to support our global markets. Future projects, announcements and campaigns will need the support and partnership and leadership from this role.
Responsibilities
- Design through strong collaboration with others across the business locally and globally, our approach to driving incremental improvements in our local sustainability
- Build the US strategy for partner and customer engagement around sustainability
- Influence the partner ecosystem to drive incremental pipeline for sustainability in the US market
- Serve as compete lead for US Sustainability market; build awareness of compete scenarios and market trends
Act as single point of contact for Microsoft’s Sustainability Initiatives…
- Act as a strong and credible subject matter expert both internally and externally on sustainability
- Drive engagement with US-based start-ups, social entrepreneurs, strategic partner coalitions and other influential organizations, in collaboration with our global sustainability team
- Localize and build US relevant materials from globally-produced customer and stakeholder facing BOM that support our sustainability narrative and co-ordinate the creation and sharing of locally-generated materials
- Public speaking on the topic of sustainability, principally with customers but also with other internal and external stakeholders
- Co-lead a US virtual team of sustainability champions across the business, providing support and expertise to scale our impact
- Act as Microsoft US single point of contact for the global sustainability team, supporting their field enablement activities
Qualifications
- 5+ years’ experience in Sustainability Partnership Development or Sustainability Programs Management.
- A proven track record of effectively partnering with a wide variety of stakeholder groups on environmental sustainability, ideally within or in support of a corporate context
- A strong ability to collaborate and communicate effectively, demonstrating excellent communication skills and attention to detail
- Credibility with external stakeholders (NGOs, campaigning groups, etc) for their involvement in sustainability issues
- BA/BS, MSc/MBA – preferred
Additional Qualifications:
- Executive Presence: Experience and expertise selling to senior business decision makers by aligning & reinforcing the value of the solution to the customer’s overall business pain and/or strategic opportunities and decision criteria.

- Excellent Communicator: Able to distill widely variant feedback into root cause issues and provide actionable feedback to other stakeholders, deep technical product demo, presenting, writing, and verbal communication skills.

- Strategy: Experience developing strategies, execution plans and reporting to achieve business goals through multiple channels and competing to take market share.
