Position Overview:
Job Summary
The Manager Environmental Policy and Sustainability is responsible for supporting the integration of corporate-wide sustainability initiatives internally and externally. This position supports the Your Energy, Your Future (YEYF) strategic framework to ensure the work we do to satisfy future energy needs provides financial, economic, social and environmental benefits to all stakeholders—including our employees, customers and their communities. Through this effort, NiSource will continue to work to identify and drive new decarbonization pathways that deliver affordable, safe, reliable and resilient energy. Additionally, this position will assist in the integration of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance enhancements across NiSource functions and with external stakeholders.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the corporate strategy development and planning process by conducting strategic analyses, with an in-depth understanding of industry trends and corporate performance
- Integrate strategies to mitigate/realize climate change related risks and opportunities
- Integrate ESG performance enhancements internally and externally
- Provide expert sustainability related technical and regulatory support and analysis throughout the corporation
- Develop and assist in the implementation of sustainability initiatives in line with the company’s goals and objectives
- Develop and integrate processes and procedures to improve performance, reduce risk or otherwise provide strategic advantages
- Follow and analyze industry and regulatory trends that impact the corporation
- Identify, develop, enhance and implement proactive sustainability programs that support implementation of business strategy
- Participate in public meetings, rate case filings and testimony related to sustainability issues
- Understand the application of sustainability technologies available for improving performance and addressing environmental issues within the business operations
- Effectively communicate technical subject matter at multiple organizational levels and functions
- Assist in reporting related to the sustainability area, including maintenance of the process that is complaint with Sarbanse-Oxley
- Demonstrate leadership and collaborate with diverse teams on complex sustainability issues
- Effectively manage staff to support these duties and responsibilities
Required Qualifications for Position
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Finance or related field
- 10+ years of environmental and/or utility experience
- Must be able to understand and develop complex operational issues and strategic planning
- Strong analytical skills with ability to transform data into both short and long term plans to meet established goals
- Knowledge of utility operations related to natural gas and electric transmission, distribution and generation
- Previous experience with utilizing change management tools and best practices
- Self-directed aptitude and willing to contribute in a wide array of environmental disciplines
- Demonstrated ability to lead in a diverse team environment and have a strong ability to work interactively and cooperatively
- Demonstrated ability to supervise staff in an inclusive and effective manner
- Strong written and oral communication skills
Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position
- Utility experience
- Advanced degree
