Position Overview:
The Circular Economy Solutions (CES) Team, is comprised of Subject Matter Experts (SME) possessing extensive industry knowledge and experience. CES team members are passionate individuals who have specifically selected environmental pursuits as their chosen career.
Consequently, a Manager on the CES Team must be an authority on select sustainability and/or circular economy methodologies. In addition, the Manager must possess a knowledge of environmental matters, regulatory mandates, and a broad view of the industry at large.
The Circular Economy Manager reports to the Director of Circular Economy Solutions and works with the Circular Economy Solutions Team to provide solutions that support Rubicon’s Mission To End Waste.
The Circular Economy Manager will oversee the development of circular economy programs for Rubicon customers with a focus on:
- Increasing diversion from the landfill through development of strategic partnerships with Key Account Managers (KAMs) and specialized service providers
- Defining Rubicon’s strategy within the fast-moving circular economy solution landscape; identifying innovative and expansive set of providers and deploying programs with Rubicon customers
- Leads the management and execution of client requests, sales opportunities, and other sustainable materials management offerings
- Writing reports, analyzing data, tracking department KPIs
Summary / General Description:
- Increase the diversion rate and environmental performance of customers and partners
- Remain proficient in his or her subject area; build and maintain a foundation of knowledge and experience; seek continuing education opportunities; be willing to invent, conceptualize new ideas and innovations; share subject matter expertise; and be a decision-maker
- Provide guidance, training and advisory services to internal staff, customers, and leadership as needed
- Manage circular economy/recycling solutions needs to ensure supplier and customer satisfaction
- Develop creative solutions for cost effective diversion of client’s commodities (paper, plastic, metal, glass, organics, regulated materials, etc.)
- Analyze client’s current waste and recycling programs, develop cost/benefit analyses to lower cost and improve resource recovery effectiveness
- Achieve financial and performance goals and objectives
- Visit client sites to evaluate the effectiveness of existing programs
- Communicate frequently with internal/external customers and suppliers
- Maintain a working knowledge on the values of recycled commodities
- Participate in company and departmental meetings
- Manage the requests that the CES Team receives to meet client expectations
- Work with internal staff to ensure that facts, details and content are correct so that projects, programs and other deliverable(s) meet or exceed the needs of the stakeholders, regulations, policies, standards, and best practices
- Identify, research, and manage specialized Vendors/Service Providers needed for selected material types and to fulfill specialized service roles
- Assist Sales as a technical advisor
- Assist in providing content to the Marketing/Communications and Sustainability Teams;
- Project management and other management functions
- Be thought-provoking innovators; lead and promote cutting-edge opportunities
- Other duties as assigned
Required Experience/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Strong analytical and project management skills
- People management experience
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Proven skills to set priorities, achieve deadlines, and manage multiple tasks at the same time
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Able to switch tasks quickly and adapt to new situations
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Ability to travel as needed
Preferred Experience
- Master’s degree
- 5-8 years of related work experience in waste, recycling or environmental field preferred
- Deep knowledge of sustainability and circular economy concepts
- Experience with waste and recycling transportation and processing negotiation and protocol
