Position Overview:

Summary

This position will help develop and guide company sustainability initiatives. This individual will also support corporate, divisional, and plant personnel in implementing and managing sustainability programs, company directives, and other tasks. Team building and leadership abilities are essential to this role.

General Description of Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Help develop and implement strategies and action plans to drive corporate sustainable development
  • Help set organizational sustainability targets, develop plans to meet those targets, and oversee their implementation
  • Develop and maintain plans, requirements, protocols, and standard operating procedures to continually improve the organization’s sustainability performance
  • Communicate and promote sustainability initiatives to internal and external stakeholders
  • Develop proposed project objectives and targets, and report to management on progress in attaining them
  • Devise tools and systems to monitor performance, analyze data, and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Research and identify alternatives, best practices, and solutions to sustainability challenges
  • Perform cost-benefit analyses of potential sustainability alternatives
  • Evaluate and communicate sustainability performance data and reporting information to internal and external stakeholders
  • Engage with customers, suppliers, the community, non-governmental organizations, employees, and other internal and external stakeholders to identify and pursue opportunities to drive product and service innovation, improve environmental footprint, reduce waste generation, increase recycling, enhance environmental conservation and increase the use of renewable energy
  • Promote and increase awareness of sustainability initiatives to internal and external stakeholders through multiple communication channels
  • Support materiality assessments to identify critical topics for management and disclosure
  • Collaborate with management, engineers, operators, and internal and external subject matter experts in order to evaluate and drive sustainability performance
  • Advise company personnel about sustainability objectives, best practices, and company policies and standards
  • Generate and present sustainability training or orientation sessions

Required Skills and Experience

  • 5-10 years of experience with increasing levels of professional responsibility
  • A degree in sustainability, engineering, science, business, or related field
  • Understanding of sustainability issues, best practices, and trends
  • Proven working experience in a manufacturing or corporate environment
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of business processes
  • Initiative to recognize emerging issues and proactively develop solutions using methods such as systems thinking and process management
  • Strong organization, planning and communication skills that enable you to coordinate a variety of projects, ideas and strategies
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with personnel at all levels of the organization
  • Personnel management and leadership skills necessary for building effective teams and managing conflict
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity, pinpoint problems and research smart and effective ways to deal with them
  • Capacity to think on large and small scale and be both analytical and creative with your ideas
  • Advanced MS Office and database skills
