From the beginning, Starbucks set out to be a different kind of company. One that not only celebrated coffee and the rich tradition, but that also brought a feeling of connection. We are known for developing extraordinary leaders who share this passion and are guided by their service to others.
Driven by our mission, we work together to create a positive impact in the world. Sustainability is at the core of what we do for people, the planet, and our business. We are pursuing a multi-decade commitment to become a resource positive company by storing more carbon than the company emits, eliminating waste, and replenishing more freshwater than we use.
Starbucks is committed to addressing the global water crisis working to achieve water security for our business and contribute to provide clean, safe water to high-risk communities and beyond. Our initial commitment is that by 2030, 50% of water withdrawal will be conserved or replenished across our direct operations, stores, packaging and agricultural supply chain from FY19, prioritizing action in high-risk water basins while supporting watershed health, ecosystem resilience and water equity.
We are looking for an expert, strategic, and collaborative partner to help us support a matrixed, passionate, global sustainability team to deliver against our 2030 water targets, evolve beyond 2030 to help lead the company’s efforts future efforts, and our overall ambition to grow our business through the lens of sustainability.

This will require significant cross-functional leadership, influence, and strategic support across all levels of the organization as responsibility is embedded in functional roles and in business units.

Ensure the target is aligned to align evolving scientific understanding, industry best practices and the competitive landscape, and future trends, innovations and technologies. Road maps should include understanding of the business case and financial implications and prioritization methodology.
- Support changes to water measurement methodology to demonstrate progress against the corporate water target, such as water quality enhancements for agriculture and adjusting WASH volumetric benefit accounting to include sanitation, and support functional and strategy specific methodologies. Support the impact measurement team to build, manage, and constantly improve the tracking, reporting, and impact measurement processes, systems, and tools.
- Develop and implement innovative solutions and projects to address the global water crisis and its impacts on people and the planet, including catalyzing holistic watershed health improvements in high-risk basins, through collective impact and industry level solutions, strategic partnerships, direct investments, and more.
- Enjoy working in an interconnected social and environmental team. Anticipate needs and adapt to changing demands of a dynamic field, team and enterprise. Enthusiastically support special projects and new initiatives that support our overall road map to our 2030 targets and broader ambitions including achieving co-benefits for climate, nature and biodiversity, and communities.
