Position Overview

The Lactalis US Yogurt (LUSY) Sustainability Project Manager is an integral member of the team responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of the sustainability strategy for LUSY. LUSY consists of Stonyfield, siggi’s, Brown Cow, and the Commonwealth Dairy and includes both branded and private label organic and conventional yogurt products. Stonyfield has a well- established sustainability strategy with defined goals, while the other parts of LUSY are in the early stages of defining and implementing sustainability strategy and goals.

The LUSY Sustainability Project Manager will work closely with the rest of the LUSY sustainability team to implement Stonyfield’s sustainability strategy for manufacturing, including goals related to packaging, waste, transport, energy, and water usage. This person will work with the other LUSY businesses to establish sustainability goals that are consistent with the business’ mission, meaningful, and relevant to consumers and customers, and then manage the implementation of these goals. The LUSY Sustainability Project Manager supports the integration of sustainability strategy to the appropriate functions within LUSY, supporting the functions in developing specific objectives and action plans, developing and providing routine updates to LUSY leadership and the rest of the Company, identifying new opportunities and resources to the sustainability teams, providing training and education to support a sustainability mindset and culture. This position will work closely and cross-functionally with all departments within LUSY. This position is also involved in helping identify state-of-the-art sustainability opportunities and technologies to meet both our short-term and long-term goals, and will support the sourcing, operations/engineering, supply chain and logistics groups and cross-functional teams as appropriate to their role in implementing such technologies. With support from appropriate functions across the business, the LUSY Sustainability Project Manager will manage the reporting process for the lifecycle analysis of greenhouse gas emissions from all LUSY businesses, and will manage the reporting process for retailer sustainability assessments, B-Corp reporting, and Lactalis global CSR reporting.

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage Stonyfield’s sustainable agriculture strategy (70%)
  • Support the development of sustainability strategy for packaging, waste, transport, and energy for all LUSY businesses, in alignment with
  • Stonyfield Mission Action Plan Goals, the Stonyfield science based target for GHG reductions, and Lactalis Global and North American CSR strategy.
  • Act as facilitator and support resource to cross-functional LUSY sustainability teams for packaging, waste, transport, and energy. Assist the teams with organizing, identifying, planning, implementing, monitoring, controlling, and reporting actions that will deliver on objectives as outlined in the Stonyfield Mission Action Plan, Stonyfield science based target, and LUSY Sustainability Strategy. Bring process, technical, environmental, and sustainability expertise to these teams as needed. Provides feedback to the Director of Organic and Sustainable
  • Agriculture for areas that need support or improvement.
  • Provide routine status updates against LUSY sustainability strategy to the Executive Team, Sustainability Steering Committee, and other key stakeholders as to the programs developed, progress being made, and breakthrough achievements.
  • In collaboration with the LUSY HR Team and the Director of Organic and Sustainable Agriculture, develop information and educational materials to support the training and animation of our employees around sustainable agriculture, the environment and sustainable practices. Support various and different training techniques and tools to gain the commitment and support of the entire LUSY Team.
  • Serve as internal coordinator of LUSY sustainability reporting activities, including lifecycle analysis of greenhouse gas emissions, B-Corp, retailer sustainability assessments, Lactalis global CSR reporting, Stonyfield impact report, and conduct internal environmental assessments as needed.
  • Partner with Lactalis North America and global teams to identify areas of collaboration where the mutual participation on projects supports the more rapid advancement and/or impact of sustainability projects.
  • Develop a network with likeminded partners within Lactalis to share ideas and collaborate with on projects.
  • Where appropriate, develop recommendations for the evaluation & purchase of GHG offsets, RECs or other environmental attribute certificates — aligning strategic decision the Director of Organic and Sustainable Agriculture.
  • Create and manage relationships with environmental partners including NGOs, contractors, utilities, governmental agencies and associations and align on strategic opportunities with the Director of Organic and Sustainable Agriculture.
  • Support LUSY PR team in communicating about organic and sustainable agriculture to customers, consumers, and media, including compilation of annual impact report for Stonyfield. Represent LUSY at public events, including speaking engagements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in field of natural resources, environment and/or business required; Master’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 2-4 years experience in a relevant field.
  • Ability to manage work of cross-functional teams to extend sustainability programs throughout the organization and deliver meaningful results on time.
  • Able to plan, track, analyze and communicate performance data to inform business decisions
  • Experience in developing and implementing business processes and systems and/or process improvement.
  • Strong analytical skills, strategic and critical thinking skills, and able to shift easily between strategic and tactical roles.
  • Experience with implementing emissions reduction, energy efficiency, renewable energy, water conservation, sustainable agriculture, and/or sustainable packaging. Experience with communicating the results of these projects to diverse audiences.
  • Background or familiarity with lifecycle analysis and methodologies
  • Familiarity with GHG Protocol Corporate Standard for tracking and reporting GHG emissions
  • Ability to gain support from diverse stakeholders for initiatives.
  • Strong writing, research and verbal skills.
  • Strong computer application skills, Excel, Word, and Power Point.
  • Ability to develop a project concept, prioritize and meet deadlines within specified time constraints with minimal guidance.
  • Well organized, detail oriented and high level of self-motivation.
  • Extensive understanding of global environmental issues.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
