Position Overview:

Primary Purpose
Manage the grants application and data verification process for Sempra Energy and the Sempra Energy Foundation along with the related companywide data collection process that allows for sophisticated reporting on enterprise-wide community investments. Aggregate grants data for use in public reporting on social impact. Develop company responses to philanthropic and social impact surveys and awards applications related to corporate citizenship and philanthropy. Support external relations’ stakeholder engagement efforts and related outputs from key alliances and executive service on key nonprofit boards at the federal, state and local level.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the online grants application process, verification with the IRS and other public databases as well as internal anti-bribery and anti-corruption clearances for Sempra Energy and the Sempra Energy Foundation, interfacing with grant applicants and providing technical support, as needed. Coordinate with the operating companies on their online grant applications to assure consistency in approach and ability to aggregate results for public reporting. Obtain results from grantees, analyze outputs, outcomes, impacts and report on results.
  • Manage and execute an annual philanthropy and community investment data collection process, keeping track of survey and internal reporting deadlines, data integrity and meet Sempra’s impact reporting obligations for the annual sustainability report and annual citizenship surveys and awards deadlines.
  • Develop and move to more sophisticated multi-tiered grant applications over time, allowing Sempra and its operating companies to achieve more granular impact results that we can leverage internally and externally. Maintain awareness of citizenship trends and impact measurement, developing and implementing a continuous improvement process to ensure ongoing relevancy.
  • Support external involvement initiatives with partnership fulfillment, providing advertisements, logos, social media information and event support, as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned including benchmarking analyses; vendor assessment; Power point presentations and participation in philanthropic webinars. (no more than 5% of duties).

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree Business, external affairs, philanthropy, public relations, information technology, or a related field required.

Experience

  • 3+ Related experience required.
  • Prior experience and knowledge of corporate philanthropy and systems, and/or impact metrics preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong analytical skills and comfort and familiarity working with data systems, Excel and Power point to analyze and share quantitative information in executive style presentations.
  • Ability to gather, understand, organize and manage corporate citizenship-related data.
  • Aptitude in completing a range of surveys relating to corporate citizenship that drive company’s external positioning and result in corporate awards and related publicity.
  • Ability to successfully interact with individuals at all levels of the company to gather information and provide guidance.
  • Ability to accept responsibility and work independently; must be able to plan, analyze, organize, control and coordinate multiple projects, often under tight time constraints.
