Position Overview:

The Commercialization Team sits within Sustainalytics’ Global Client Relations team, where we work with a diverse and growing range of leading institutional investors integrating Sustainalytics’ research into their ESG investment process.

Members of the team choose to work for Sustainalytics to combine their desire to work in a fast-paced, commercial, and entrepreneurial organization, with making a positive impact through the work we do. We operate in a lively and collaborative environment, where each day is different.

Within the Commercialization Team, we contribute to the development of our solutions – such as our ESG Risk Ratings, EU Action Plan and Impact research – and this includes ensuring that our products provide solutions for current and upcoming regulations, and align with market standards and sustainability labels.

Key internal stakeholders include Sustainalytics’ Client Relations team, who conduct business development and service existing clients, Product Managers and the Product Strategy and Development Team. The Commercialization Team is a key liaison between the client-facing teams and the product related teams.

Role & Responsibility:

This new role is an exciting opportunity for someone with ESG regulatory experience, commercialization skills, and a collaborative approach, who wants to be part of Sustainalytics’ growth story.

At Sustainalytics we are constantly evolving and developing our products. More so than ever before, we need to ensure that these developments support our clients’ regulatory needs, as new sustainable policies come to market that are dramatically changing the landscape of investing.

To that end, we are looking for candidates with expertise or interest in public policy and sustainable finance regulation to guide our ESG product developments from a commercial angle. This will involve having a comprehensive understanding of current regulations and new draft acts, interpreting them into investor reporting requirements, and ensuring Sustainalytics’ products are fit for complying with regulatory purposes.

The successful candidate will work closely with our client-facing teams. This includes supporting them with client calls, such as aiding clients’ understanding of regulations and explaining the relevance of Sustainalytics’ products to the requirements of regulations. You will run internal training sessions to keep our teams updated on the regulatory requirements that will impact clients. In addition, your remit will include keeping abreast of the competitive landscape and emerging client demands, which could lead to building business cases where new research or products are warranted.

This is an exciting opportunity to collaborate across multiple areas of Sustainalytics and Morningstar, and to work with the Commercialization and Client Relations teams globally to grow our market presence. This role has a strong emphasis on commercial development with internal stakeholders, and institutional clients and prospects.

We work daily with colleagues in different regions globally. The desire to work very closely with a diverse team from many different cultures is critical to working at Sustainalytics. We place a strong emphasis on a collaborative, high-trust culture and being mission driven.

Key Responsibilities

  • Play a substantial role in supporting and influencing the commercialization strategy for our regulatory-impacted solutions for the institutional investor segment, and drive the creation of new solutions where required.
  • Conduct research to identify proposed laws, rules, regulations and prescribed practices that are applicable to Sustainalytics’ ESG solutions.
  • Consider upcoming regulations and the suitability of our current products and put forward potential product development ideas.
  • Stay on top of market developments regarding regulatory and sustainability standards, and work closely with key internal stakeholders to keep them informed.
  • Significantly contribute to the team goal of growing our brand framework and market positioning.
  • Collaborate across teams and the wider organization, representing the client and market views with confidence in product development conversations.
  • Internal training to client-facing teams of regulatory developments or updates, ensuring they have all the required talking points for client conversations.
  • Participate in client meetings and act as a trusted advisor to institutional investor clients on how to apply any regulatory/market-standard solutions.
  • Collaborating with other internal policy and regulatory experts across Sustainalytics and Morningstar

Business Stakeholder Requirements:

The ideal candidate needs to be a driven team player who can both succeed individually, as well as reach goals through close collaboration with other team members. The ideal candidate will have:

  • 7+ years’ experience in an ESG specialist role, including specific experience of regulatory requirements.
  • Degree in related discipline (business, economics, finance, environment and/or social sciences).
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of ESG and financial services.
  • Capable of building and maintaining relationships with representatives of industry associations and other relevant external bodies.
  • Strategic thinker with a forward-looking mindset and the ability to take the initiative, think creatively and proactively.
  • Genuine team player, wanting to support the broader Client Relations team, operating with a high level of integrity and collaboratively.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • A strong communicator and a natural storyteller, you can understand and present complex products in an engaging way to various stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated passion for sustainability and an alignment with Sustainalytics’ mission, vision and values
