Position Overview:

OBJECTIVES/PURPOSE

  • Design and oversee implementation of the BioLife Sustainability Program
  • Work cross-functionally with EHS, Engineering, IT, Operations, and others, to ensure Takeda’s targets for Emissions, Water,and Waste are deployed into BioLife
  • Identify and oversee the implementation of projects, new and existing technologies, and new operational approaches to deliver sustainability targets, without compromising quality, safety, operational, and business objectives
  • Lead through influence to ensure Sustainability projects are resourced, supported, and delivered

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Leads the BioLife Sustainability effort, responsible for delivering BioLife’s Sustainability objectives (75%).
    • Ensures BioLife sustainability targets are aligned with Takeda’s commitments and objectives.
    • Defines KPIs to measure progress toward commitments, sets long-term and yearly targets, and coordinates the collection and reporting of KPI data.
    • Identifies projects that are required to achieve KPI targets. Works cross-functionally to develop the business case for these projects, including clear identification of trade-offs and financial analysis.
    • Escalates sustainability risks and resolution pathways to the BioLife Leadership Team.
    • Coordinates the disclosure and communication of sustainability performance metrics to internal and external stakeholders, as required.
    • Works directly with Marketing and Business Development to define and capture the non-financial benefits of the sustainability project portfolio.
  • Deliver Sustainability Projects / Programs (25%)
    • Directly responsible for the management and delivery of one or more Sustainability project / programs.
    • Develop, manage, and oversee the scope, schedule, budget, risks, and resourcing.
    • Ensure continuous alignment between the project / program objective and the overall Sustainability objectives.
  • Note: this position will start with no direct reports, but may grow to include direct reports over time.

EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

Essential: Bachelor’s Degree. 10+ years in a healthcare/medical related capacity, 5+ years in a leadership role focused on Sustainability or Environmental topics

Desired:

  • Masters in Business, Sustainability, or a relevant technical discipline
  • Past history of setting and driving sustainability targets.
  • Project management and Financial management skills are necessary. Trained as Lean and or Six Sigma Green/ Black Belt required, certification preferred

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • FLSA Classification (US) – Exempt
  • Domestic Travel – up to 40%, with occasional international travel, with occasional international travel
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
