Job Description

We are currently seeking a Sustainability Analyst to author our company’s sustainability and impact story. The successful candidate will serve as the company’s technical subject matter expert on all things sustainability and will work closely with TemperPack Marketing to share that message with the public.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Serve as TemperPack’s in-house LCA expert build an LCA model using industry-standard software and run reports quarterly based on factory production volumes
  • Lead the communication of the results to our employees and investors
  • Research, digest, and understand the various labeling initiatives/certifications tied to recycling and composting. Sustainability Analyst/Engineer will need to be able to review the testing standards associated with various programs and then compare/contrast programs and offer an opinion on how certain products will perform against certain standards
  • Research, digest, and understand the public trends related to sustainability (eg plastics recycling, composting participation in the US vs EU, etc.)
  • Understand the macroeconomics of various end of life scenarios for packaging materials (eg costs associated with single stream recycling programs, OCC export prices, etc)
  • Research, digest, and understand the technical improvements and/or financial investments being made in the recycling industry
  • Participate in activities with influential sustainability groups in the industry to facilitate education on TemperPack’s products
  • Publish thought leadership content sharing TemperPack’s views on sustainability and its products
  • Coordinate all sustainability related testing activities

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field of study
  • 3+ years experience in a sustainability focused role (technical experience required)
  • Experience building or auditing robust LCA models
  • Passion for sustainability/environmental stewardship
  • Working knowledge of material science and common manufacturing techniques

Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Detail oriented
  • Responsive to change effectively and in energetic manner
  • Ability to explain the results of complex issues clearly and concisely to various audiences (some technical, some non-technical). Sustainability Analyst/Engineer must be able to effectively communicate TemperPack’s stance on sustainability and be able to productively debate it with opposition
  • Comfortable with data (sourcing, cleansing, slicing, and analyzing)
  • Proficiency with MS Excel is required
  • Basic knowledge, or ability to learn, SQL and data analysis coding language (Python, etc.) is desirable
  • Inquisitive nature and refuse to accept the status quo
