Position Overview:

What to Expect

Tesla seeks an Environmental Sustainability Specialist – this role is a member of Tesla’s global sustainability team and will play a key role in supporting Tesla’s sustainability strategy on environmental management; reporting, driving, and monitoring progress on defined goals; and communicating Tesla’s accomplishments to internal and external stakeholders.

What You’ll Do

  • Partner with Tesla’s Global Sustainability Lead, team members, and leaders across multiple business functions to develop and implement Tesla’s sustainability strategies focused on environmental impact – metric themes including energy and GHG emissions reduction, climate risk, waste and water.
  • Supporting leaders to: develop, track, and measure metrics and goals, develop environmental sustainability policies, principles and guidelines; develop guidance, training and educational modules/systems in partnership with EHS&S, Finance, Energy, Responsible Sourcing, Policy and Legal teams; integrate metrics into short and long-term planning.
  • Lead Tesla’s Science-Based Target implementation process working with the sustainability and regional environmental teams, including the system development to manage Tesla’s GHG emissions footprint, development of targets and reporting.
  • Partner with facility leads to support the development of an operational energy strategy to increase energy efficiency and renewable energy procurement across Tesla.
  • Support Tesla’s TCFD alignment process and climate risk management reporting strategy, including management of climate risk assessments and scenario analysis modeling.
  • Actively track related trends and developments in environmental sustainability compliance and disclosures and translate / communicate implications to the relevant Tesla leaders.
  • Partner with Investor Relations, Sustainability team, Internal Audit and other leaders to support preparation of disclosures for Tesla’s Impact Report and website. This includes gathering data and metrics, developing narratives, and leading data assurance tasks.

What You’ll Bring

  • A degree in finance, public policy, sustainability, environmental management, communications or business is preferred.
  • 5-7 years experience related to sustainability and / or environmental impact, with direct experience developing and implementing environmental sustainability programs within or for a large, global organization.
  • Current and clear understanding of sustainability issues and related frameworks, particularly relating to environmental and / or climate impact and ESG reporting related to manufacturing, mining, technology, and energy industries.
  • A passion for impact-related work and a desire to innovate, not just check boxes.
  • Strong organizational skills and project management skills – possesses the ability to successfully manage multiple projects/deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong data management and program development skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with ability to adapt to different formats (dashboards, internal trainings, annual reports, etc.).
  • Ability to be flexible and change pace often.
  • Experience managing multiple priorities and finding creative solutions to complex challenges.
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely and communicate effectively with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders across multiple time zones.
  • Ability to maintain discretion with sensitive and confidential information.

Expected Compensation

$70,400 – $240,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
