Position Overview:

Job Location:  Hershey, PA – hybrid work from office or home 1-4 days per week.  Remote considered too!

Job Summary:

The Hershey Company is seeking a talented and passionate environmental sustainability professional to join the Global Sustainability team. The Global Sustainability and Social Impact team has strategic responsibly for Hershey’s ESG activities and works with business partners across the organization to implement Hershey’s ESG policies and programs. As a member of the team, the individual will lead Hershey’s environmental sustainability strategy including goal setting, project planning and execution, business integration and data analysis and reporting including performance improvement. As environmental lead, the Sr. Manager will serve as a subject matter expert positioning the company for success with key stakeholders including investors, customers, and internal business partners.  This role will report to the Director of Global Sustainability & ESG and will contribute to the development of a talented team.

Role Responsibilities:

Programmatic Development & Delivery

  • Set the vision and strategy for Hershey’s climate program globally including driving achievement of Hershey’s 2030 Science Based Target as well as future ambition
  • Refine and deliver de-carbonization strategies and roadmaps towards current GHG emission reduction targets across all scopes including working across the organization to help build and align plans and resources to achieve commitments
  • Advance Hershey’s global water strategy in alignment with SBTs for Nature as well as future positioning in biodiversity and regenerative agriculture. Identify assessment methodologies, work with external stakeholders, and assist in building, developing, and aligning multi-year water and nature targets
  • Lead strategic climate scenario analyses, and other efforts that help Hershey identify, quantify, and manage enterprise risks and opportunities

Leadership & Management

  • Serve as a sustainability champion and subject matter expert while partnering across the enterprise to embed sustainability into business units, and drive accountability, execution and business excellence
  • Collaborate with business, finance, and legal teams to inform complete, accurate and timely measurement and reporting of sustainability data
  • Represent Hershey in relevant industry groups and platform and bring to the business best practices and innovative sustainability opportunities
  • Manage direct reports, budgets, and other resources to ensure high-performing team and culture to enable successful project execution and the achievement of internal business objectives and public commitments

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Advanced degree in environmental sustainability, environmental management, public policy, or related field, highly preferred

Experience:

  • 10+ years sustainability experience; corporate experience with CPG, food, or agriculture exposure highly sought after
  • Passionate about global sustainability and making a long-term impact on people, our planet, and communities
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of climate change and GHG emissions, including the GHG Protocol, Science Based Targets, carbon neutral/net zero, renewable/clean energy, power purchase agreements, regenerative agriculture and related public policy
  • Understanding of climate change, GHG emissions accounting and sector-specific transition pathways
  • Experience in climate scenario planning strongly preferred
  • Advanced analytical skills to support the analysis and interpretation of sustainability impacts on businesses and value chains
  • 6+ years of people management experience
  • Highly organized with strong project management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results in a matrixed and complex operating environment with a strong sense of urgency
  • Strong influencing, collaboration across and at all levels of an organization
  • Clear, concise and compelling oral and written communications skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing workload to meet multiple deadliness
  • Experience leading and facilitating group process and collaboration
