This position will report to the office of Facilities, Planning and Management in direct support of the Office of Sustainability. The Office of Sustainability engages the campus community in sustainability initiatives and supports resource conservation efforts and Green Fund projects. This position is currently funded for three years with the possibility of being extended beyond 8/31/2025.

Purpose

Coordinate and report UT-Austin’s campus sustainability information through numerous reporting, rating, and commitment frameworks used for benchmarking and promoting sustainability in higher education. This position will also work on special financial analysis projects such as evaluating return-on-investment scenarios.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, track and analyze the data, and complete and submit reports, for campus sustainability indicators based on databases for the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System (STARS), and the Greenhouse Gas Inventory (GHG), Academic Course Directory, UT Austin Sustainability Plan and additional reports related to the campus’ commitments and reporting needs.
  • Develop and maintain a process for data collection, storage and accessibility for all datasets that are identified for above databases. Establish a review system for accuracy and validation of data and reports. Collaborate with other units who ‘own’ data and maintain existing data warehouses.
  • Perform analyses of sustainability indicators and create data visualizations. Analyze institutional performance, peer comparisons with other higher education institutions as well with key industry sectors. Write reports describing findings and overall impacts, assist with making specific recommendations for improvement based on findings. Work with campus communications teams to provide transparency, interpretations of the data, and progress on reporting and institutional commitments including presentation materials and summary of information for use in briefings, newsletters and social media.
  • Serves as webmaster for sustainability.utexas.edu, perform routing content updates and maintenance. Support other sustainability-related content development.
  • Supports outreach efforts to internal and external stakeholders regarding general sustainability information and programming. Represent UT Austin at local and regional events and serve on relevant committees with in the university and community.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and three years of experience in program administration or program coordination, or master’s degree and one year of experience, or doctoral degree and no previous experience.

Proficient with Tableau or other data visualization software; demonstrated knowledge of traditional relational databases (SQL); computer programming experience (e.g., experience with APIs); strong data visualization and project management skills.  Experience in a business analyst role and managing automation projects.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five years minimum experience in a professional environment related to sustainability, quantitative and qualitative research, engineering science, environmental science/studies or related field, with the ability to cross-communicate with student organizations, academia, industry, state, and other higher education institutions.
  • Knowledge of sustainability concepts and best practices in higher education, such as environmental and sustainability science, curricular integration, systems thinking, and climate action planning.
  • Familiarity with higher education organizational structure including Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Development, Research, and Finance and Administration.
  • Ability to interpret, analyze and report sustainability metrics such as energy calculations, cost benefits analysis, greenhouse gas reporting and STARS data.
  • Experience working with shared governance groups, including faculty, staff and student groups, student government, and student organizations.
  • Strong oral, written and listening communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships and to build partnerships.
  • Ability to manage a project, including manage teams and milestones for teams.

Salary Range

$65,000 + depending on qualifications
