TJX has long been committed to pursuing initiatives that are environmentally responsible and smart for our business. As a large, complex international business, we work to continually make progress on our environmental sustainability efforts and help mitigate our impact on the environment. We focus our efforts in four areas: climate and energy, responsible waste management, chemicals management, and sustainable products. We are making great progress in all these areas and to further accelerate our initiatives have added a Manager of Sustainability!
The Manager of Sustainability will lead, evolve and manage TJX’s Sustainability program with a focus on execution of internal operations relating to energy and waste initiatives, data and metrics and internal Associate engagement. This is a hybrid position requiring 2 days a week on-site at our Marlborough, MA campus.
Responsibilities:
- Partners with key internal stakeholders (Energy Management, Facilities, Store Operations, Procurement, Distribution Services, etc) to drive the business case creation and recommended implementation approach for new or expanded sustainable operations initiatives, including the development of processes, tools and tracking mechanisms for topics that include: Sourcing, energy efficiency, renewables, re-use and recycling, circular economy and packaging
- Keeps a pulse on industry trends, constantly seeking out best practices and benchmark against peers and key direct and indirect suppliers (for example: benchmark TJX Logistics carrier goals and emissions reduction strategies)
- Researches and assesses the landscape of forthcoming environmental regulations and advise the business on an approach to operationalize these regulations
- Represents TJX in industry association meetings
- Responsible for crafting and assessing sustainability initiatives, metrics, processes and procedures and analyzing potential business impacts (risks or opportunities) and making key recommendations to Senior Management as appropriate.
Requirements:
- Bachelors’ Degree in relevant focus areas such as Environmental Studies, Environmental Policy, Sustainable Business or equivalent professional experience; MBA or advanced degree a plus
- 8+ years corporate sustainability experience or sustainability consulting experience
- Developed experience working with sustainability reporting standards, frameworks and certifications including CDP, SASB, TCFD and UNSDGs a plus
- GHG accounting experience preferred
- Excellent communications and presentation skills, both written and verbal, ability to communicate complex business information in a clear and compelling way
- Recognizable executive presence with experience and comfort presenting information to executive leaders
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build effective working relationships with internal partners in a constantly evolving environment
- Comfortable collaborating and partnering across business functions
- Proficient with MS 365 Suite including Excel skills with ability to analyze and synthesize data into relevant insights, creating dashboards and reporting to tell the story
