SET THE COURSE
The Senior Manager, Responsibility and Sustainability is responsible to lead and execute on the company’s strategic objectives related to social and environmental opportunities across the value chain. They will own the execution of our current sustainability commitments as well as drive and build the strategies for future goals and commitments. They will create and project manage a cross company roadmap by business unit, outline company goals, and the steps to achieve them. The overall strategy encompasses both the Social and Environmental efforts including our people, the materials we use, our products, the vendors we work with, our carbon emissions, and the way our stores, restaurants and offices operate.
BE THE ISLAND GUIDE
- Build, drive, and project manage short and long-term sustainability roadmaps including social compliance, water, climate, waste, and circularity that impact the apparel and restaurant industries and related report card(s).
- Help develop, manage, and reinforce our social responsibility policies within our company and with our vendors.
- Develop and lead targeted sustainability strategies that engage our stakeholders with short, medium, and long-term critical metrics that deliver measurable change
- Define KPIs/targets and measure impact of brand sustainability programs, incorporating environmental, customer and commercial outcomes; develop strategies to engage our customers in our brand sustainability journey, commitments and progress. Sponsor and drive awareness and escalate industry related critical issues as needed.
- Partner with our Sourcing, Materials, Design on product and material roadmaps and long-range strategies as well as influencing product and material innovation.
- Align with sourcing, production and quality assurance on vendor sustainability strategies and performance.
- Partner with our creative/marketing teams to drive and elevate our external sustainability communications which includes managing our sustainability website and any external reports.
- Analyze, develop and maintain sustainability reporting to provide accurate and timely sustainability and social and environmental impact information and reports to support analysis and decision making.
- Help lead and develop robust systems and software to manage vendor environmental and social compliance data.
- Act as point person to eliminate redundancy and create simplicity in capturing metrics and all reporting.
- Influence and ensure we are practicing sustainability efforts in Tommy Bahama’s physical spaces including offices, warehouse, stores, and restaurants.
- Stay informed of best practices, market, and industry trends, and provide competitive analysis to assist in making recommendations for programs (AAFA, SAC, NRF, Textile Exchange,
- Sustainable Brands etc.)
- Sponsor/co-create all sustainability related tools and trainings.
- Drive all traceability and transparency paths and metrics in relation to the overall supply chain
- Research and engage as well as act as liaison and point person between consulting firms and the organization. Scheduling meetings and provide any necessary materials
- Lead sustainability internally throughout the organization and supply chain and play an active role as Tommy Bahama’s representative at industry meetings and functions. Establish and drive key partnerships and industry coalitions.
- Maintain keen understanding of broader industry landscape around sustainability developments, targets and goals as well as competitive trends; leverage real-time customer insight to inform brand sustainability strategies and programs
SAC Higg FEM / Higg FSLM / BRM
- Manage the SAC Membership and utilization of Higg suite of tools (FEM, FSLM, BRM).
- Attend SAC events and stay on top of membership requirements and industry standard changes.
- Review, accept and track scores on higg.org.
- Compile and maintain yearly scores and track year over year adoption and performance.
- Follow up with Production for vendors to complete modules, accept share requests, etc.
- Draft and communicate Tommy Bahama’s vendor expectations for Higg completion.
- Complete and submit annual material assessment for Higg BRM by partnering with business unit subject matter experts for necessary information gathering – HR, Logistics, Retail.
ESSENTIALS FOR LIFE IN PARADISE
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental sustainability or related field/equivalent work experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree; MBA or master’s degree in sustainability-related field a plus.
- Generally, 10+ years of relevant work experience in sustainability-related field and or organization
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Clear track record of successfully developing and implementing innovative sustainability strategies and programs, including circular business models, within retail or consumer products environments.
- Strong business acumen with proven ability to integrate sustainability strategies and initiatives into core business operations to support brand priorities and to drive ESG.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively build relationships and collaborate across global organization, to organize and lead teams who do not directly report to you, and to influence change across all levels of the organization.
- Sharp strategic thinking and analytical skills; ability to translate strategies into actionable initiatives for practical impact and to define, drive and deliver on program KPIs and ROI goals.
- Exceptional project management skills; adept at planning and managing multi-stakeholder initiatives and solving problems/removing obstacles to get work done/drive execution.
- Passionate about understanding the customer and how sustainability strategies enable organizations to better anticipate and meet changing customer needs; demonstrated ability to leverage real-time customer insight and analysis to drive customer-centric outcomes/innovation
- Ability to work across geographies and cultures
- Retail apparel industry experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of sustainability, product development process, sourcing, and garment production
- Knowledge of apparel industry as it’s related to social and environmental impacts and challenges.
- Passion for doing market research on sustainability including staying on top of industry news, latest technology and trends and global sustainability and the strong desire to make a long-term impact.
- Proven experience in partnering with Diversity and Inclusion leaders.
