Position Overview:

Position Summary:

Aligned with the founding purpose at Traditional Medicinals, the Specialist is responsible for organizing project and department actions, and data; managing TM’s regular sustainability reporting requirements for customer, industry, and governmental stakeholders.

This position reports to the Director of the Traditional Medicinals Social Good department, with project work supporting the (Environmental) Sustainability and Communications Managers in the Traditional Medicinals’ Social Responsibility department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Internal Sustainability

  • Support TM interdepartmental implementation, such as:
  • Evaluation of Zero Waste certification and facility materials management
  • Sustainability policy implementation and tracking tools
  • Creation and delivery of sustainability education content for employees, suppliers and other stakeholders
  • Supporting execution of 2030 climate strategy and carbon neutrality plan (in development)
  • Support TM departments in setting next-level sustainability goals aligned with our purpose and values, using existing frameworks. e.g. B Impact Assessment
  • Support environmental employee awareness and engagement initiatives

2. External Reporting

  • Work with internal stakeholders to gather, analyze and organize environmental data and documentation
  • Lead cross-functional compilation of annual reporting for B Impact Assessment, California Benefit Corporation, California Green Business, Green America, and other reporting needs
  • Design and manage internal data management and reporting practices for continuous improvement

3. Research and Advocacy

  • Conduct research and collaborate with purpose-aligned organizations on evolving models for sustainable business
  • Contribute to strategic planning and knowledge management (i.e. industry best practices, one pagers, case studies, external collaboration, lessons learned etc.)
  • Help identify opportunities to design in environmental elements to international source community projects and support implementation

4. Communications Responsibilities

  • Work cross-functionally to solicit information from stakeholders, compile and maintain results, and develop detailed and accurate reports, charts, and graphs
  • Support production of reports and presentations to internal and external stakeholders, including data compilation and calculation, writing, and proofreading
  • Manage the process for moving created content through approvals to publication

5. Ad hoc projects as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sustainability, Corporate Responsibility, or other related
  • Must have 3+ years of experience in corporate/campus sustainability, compliance/stakeholder reporting, or related organizational management
  • Transparent and high integrity leadership
  • Strong organizational abilities including planning, project development and task facilitation
  • Familiarity with Microsoft AX, Teams, and other relevant programs
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to interface and engage diverse stakeholder groups

Travel Requirements:

  • Possible 1 – 2 international trips annual, as mutually agreed

Physical/Mental Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms. Infrequent project work may require the use of ladders (e.g. inspecting rooftop solar panels), outdoor work (e.g. completion of the annual zero waste audit, monitoring garden progress, etc.). The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
