By working closely with the US government and coordinating grassroots advocacy efforts, our Corporate and Government Affairs team represents United on public policy and legislative issues. Key Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for working with leadership on sustainability planning and strategic development to drive progress towards meeting United’s decarbonization goals. This role will focus on delivering solutions that differentiate United by working in a cross-functional team to define, build and implement initiatives across strategic customer engagement. This will be done by demonstrating expert understanding of GHG emissions accounting guidance and protocols to drive sustainable fuel strategies that enable reduction of emissions for business travel, freight forwarding, and other customer-facing entities. You will be working with key stakeholders to establish partnership opportunities for corporate, cargo, and leisure customers to enable more sustainable flying, and lead potential associated agreement negotiations. Support other duties as assigned
- Working collaboratively to track and communicate progress to peers and United leadership
- Represent United’s sustainability strategy through internal and external engagements, as required.
- Work with team and leadership to develop and execute on strategy, goals and key performance indicators in support of United’s ambition to decarbonize commercial air travel through sustainable fuel and other decarbonization solutions
- Shape our objectives in collaboration with Corporate Sales, Cargo, united.com, and other business units to provide innovative solutions that reduce GHG emissions from travel
- Responsible for supporting customer and supply chain engagement as required, inclusive of customer and fuel procurement contract negotiations
- Engage with and represent United to key external organizations across corporations, non-profits, government entities, industry and more
- Understand key trends, market developments, sustainability commitments, and other relevant developments to advise United’s engagement with corporate customers and more
- Inform and drive key initiatives pertaining to sustainable fuel/decarbonization, ESG, and United’s full value chain
- Implement programs and projects that further United’s thought leadership on decarbonizing travel for our customers through direct engagement, policy advocacy, data management and analysis, digital tools and resources, strategic partnerships, and more
- Manage and analyze progress against goals with a focus on continued optimization
- Support internal and external briefings and engagements as appropriate
- Be solution-oriented and committed to a creating and sustaining a culture of continuous improvement and innovation
- Model integrity, possess self-awareness and foster an environment of accountability
- Provide transparent communication to department staff, leadership, and partners
- Establish individual goals that align with United’s climate ambition: net zero carbon emissions by 2050
- Use technical knowledge and experience to provide thoughtful decision-making and guidance in strategic implementation of United’s climate strategy and program

Qualifications
What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
- Bachelors degree in environmental sciences/policy or related area such as business, economics or other
- 9+ years of related experience
- Knowledge of GHG accounting methodologies required
- Strong business and financial background to evaluate potential strategies and opportunities relevant to our business
- Experience in evaluating complex business challenges and developing pragmatic solutions
- Experience with stakeholder engagement with key groups including communities, government officials, NGOs, employees, etc.
- General understanding of environmental regulations and sustainability
- Strong interpersonal and judgment skills to lead cross-divisional teams towards collective
- Strong analytical skills, strategic/innovative thinking, and long-term vision
- Ability to “scan the horizon” and apply risk/benefit approach to emerging issues
- Strong communication and presentation skills with experience presenting to senior management and/or external audiences required Proficient computer skills including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
