Job Summary:
The Sr. Manager Sustainability leads the Zero Waste to Landfill by 2030 goal of Commitment to Zero enterprise wide, and is responsible for implementing Commitment to Zero operationally in the Western region (Whistler Blackcomb, Northstar, Heavenly, Kirkwood, Stevens Pass and Australia). The Sr. Manager will start the role with 2 direct reports, and thus must have experience in team and staff leadership and development. This role will work with the Senior Director of Sustainability, the Commitment to Zero Program Manager, and the entire Sustainability team and will serve on the Sustainability team’s Senior Leadership Team.
This role will focus on executing the 2030 Zero Waste Plan formally across the enterprise. Key elements of the role include:
- Lead operational and strategic execution of the 2030 Zero Waste Plan (previously developed), including achieving zero waste to landfill by 2030.
- Support all Sustainability Managers at resorts in driving local waste progress towards enterprise goals.
- Oversee all waste data, metrics, and reporting.
- Note- this role will not be responsible for collecting and vetting all waste data but will be responsible for reporting to senior executives in the company.

Job Responsibilities:
- Lead and execute the 2030 Waste Plan largely independently (strategy, implementation, reporting).
- Manage, develop, and lead 2+ direct reports.
- Drive significant Executive Committee level updates and deliverables largely independently.
- Manage the region’s budget largely independently.
- Project Management: Effectively manage the zero waste to landfill capital and operational budgets.
- Thought Leadership: Effectively represent Vail Resorts at conferences and to the media.
- Teamwork & Leadership: Be a strong contributor and leader within the Sustainability team and across the company.
Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Strong demonstrated experience in project management, strategy execution, and driving business results.
- Collaboration with external partners, vendors, and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, previous direct reports, and growth mindset.
- Ability to facilitate strategic dialogue and problem solving across multiple departments.
- 8+ years’ experience with leading teams and delivering strong project management.
- Comfortable representing Vail Resorts at conferences and with the media.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work un-supervised.
- Strong computer skills in Excel required.
Preferred Skills:
- Understanding of waste systems, processes, and diversion.
- Understanding energy management, renewable energy, and/or energy efficiency.
- This role is expected to be located in the Tahoe region.
The budgeted range starts at $89,800 – $107,800 + annual bonus. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience.
