Job Summary:

Come be a part of the industry-leading sustainability program, Commitment to Zero, at Vail Resorts. The Eagle County Sustainability Manager leads the environmental sustainability efforts for Vail Mountain and Beaver Creek resorts’ operations. This role will work with the Regional Sr. Environmental Sustainability Manager, the Sustainability team, local leadership, and employees across business units to proactively identify, develop and implement sustainability projects and programs. This role will report into the Senior Sustainability Manager for the Rocky Mountain Region and work with the Senior Director of Sustainability, Vail Resorts’ Sustainability Team, local leadership, and employees across business units to identify and implement sustainability projects and programs. These programs will be in support of the Commitment to Zero initiative, and our environmental goals including energy and emissions, zero waste, and more. This role will focus on integrating our operations and employees with our sustainability goals, through program development, oversight and implementation. The Eagle County Sustainability Manager is expected to represent Vail Resorts in sustainability matters within the local communities, and work closely with the resorts’ external partners and service providers as well as public agencies. The position will be based at both Vail Mountain and Beaver Creek resort.

Job Specifications:

  • Shift & Schedule Availability: Full Time / Year Round
  • Location: Eagle County, CO
  • The expected range is $59,100 – $79,000 + annual bonus

Job Responsibilities:

  • Initiate, oversee, and implement our Commitment to Zero vision and environmental sustainability programs to achieve a zero net operating footprint by 2030.
  • Be a sustainability leader that drives innovative programs in the areas of energy and emissions, waste, supply chain management, and other relevant areas to inspire our employees and our guests.
  • Support the identification and implementation of energy efficiency projects at the resort level, along with renewable energy opportunities with local utilities and community partners.
  • Project management: Effectively manage complex capital and budgetary projects that may involve multiple departments, time constraints, and external partners that further our sustainability goals.
  • Engagement and outreach: Effectively communicate environmental sustainability through various channels that will demonstrate leadership and drive guest and employee loyalty to our programs and resorts.
  • Teamwork: Act as a contributor and leader within the greater Vail Resorts Sustainability Team.
  • Supports branding, positioning, and outreach of environmental initiatives to guests, employees, and communities in alignment with EpicPromise.
  • Frequent travel will be required regularly between resorts in Eagle County (day driving trips primarily).
  • Occasional travel will be required to the Corporate Headquarters in Colorado and offsite events at various locations.
  • Support environmental compliance efforts, as needed.

Job Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience preferably in sustainability including energy and waste reduction
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Primary work location in Eagle County
  • Ability to facilitate strategic dialogue and problem-solving across multiple departments
  • Knowledge of energy and waste systems
  • Comfortable speaking in front of groups and making new relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient skills in Excel required
  • Ability to meet travel requirements

Preferred:

  • Proficient skier/snowboarder for travel within the resort in winter season
  • Mountain resort or hospitality experience preferred
  • Experience with waste diversion and waste reduction strategies
  • Experience with energy management and energy efficiency strategies

The expected pay range is $59,100 – $79,000 + annual bonus. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
