Position Overview:
Job Summary
In this role, you will provide general research and project support for WRI’s growing work on land and carbon monitoring. Key tasks including performing desk research, conducting quantitative analyses, assisting with content creation (written and graphic) for various research and communication outputs, helping create workplans and establish related internal systems and processes, and supporting outreach and engagement with project partners and other external audiences. We are seeking a flexible individual who is eager to learn and willing to wear many hats. This position will require active collaboration with others across WRI’s global network.
This position is remote due to COVID-19, but you will be based at WRI’s office in Washington, DC once restrictions have lifted.
Job Responsibilities
Research and Analysis (75%)
- Develop a strong working knowledge of geospatial data and methods for monitoring land, natural ecosystems, and associated carbon from local to global scales, as well as strategies to apply such monitoring data and tools to drive equitable and effective climate action
- Conduct literature reviews and synthesize findings on diverse topics such as: remote sensing science and earth observation data, land sustainability and climate mitigation solutions, open data and data transparency theories of change, etc
- Support colleagues in conducting original research, including through desk research, quantitative analysis, interviews of subject matter experts, etc
- Support production of written and graphic content for research reports, internal briefs, blogs, presentations, press releases, etc
- Support editing, peer review, and production process to publish research and communication outputs
- Present research results at internal and external meetings and workshops
Program Development and Administration (25%)
- Contribute to concept notes, funding proposals, and donor reports
- Support development of work plans and related internal systems and processes to ensure timely execution of activities and delivery of outputs
- Liaise with external partners and WRI colleagues across programs and countries
- Organize internal and external meetings, workshops, conferences
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in environment studies/science, international development or related area required
- Two+ years of relevant full-time work experience
- Knowledge of remote sensing and earth observation technologies and methods, international climate policy, and sustainability challenges related to land and natural resource management
- Excellent qualitative and/or quantitative research and writing skills
- Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel) and internet research
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with teams of individuals and colleagues
- Ability to deliver high quality work while under pressure
- Ability to be flexible and manage competing priorities
- Experience with spatial analysis and GIS software is a plus
- US work authorization is required. WRI is unable to provide visa sponsorship for this opportunity
